Hey all im installing my new gas struts but i cant take off the stupid nut off. Ive used a 12mm spanner, no lucky. Added in the add of a hammer, no deal. Im getting close to stripping the thread and ive put a huge amount of energy into it and it doesnt even move. Ive heard these things are hard to get off but most people have said with a hammer they were able to get it off. Anything else i should try and do? Wanna install them today before it gets dark so any help would be sweet.

David, that nut is a huge PAIN-IN-THE-A$$ I have already stripped 2 from my previous soarers.
Chris, i had to undo the little nuts at the back of the strut where the boot arm connects. Sure you can install the strut without undoing them but i have had experience with the strut coming off each time you go over a large bump.

Ill be hitting it with a butane torch hopefully tomorrow. Apparently from the info on clublexus they are done up with locktit and then painted so heating help to loosen it. Adam if i strip it what options do i have then?

Didnt you have to take them off to get them regassed? Believe me they are a Mine where still working fine but i had new ones so i wanted to swap them. Either way i need to take that nut off to put the new one or the old one back on. Butane it is.

I can relate to this one. I put the '97 struts on the '95 when I had them both at same time, and then bought new ones for the '97. The '97 ones came off OK but the '95 was (expletive deleted) not fun. Bent the mounting bracket before I could get the nut off. Can't offer any suggestions aside from those already offered.

Yeah i think im close to stripping one nut already. Problem is that the other end if of so the boot is heavy as hell. Ill get the butane torch and give it a go, if i strip it ill get a hacksaw and hack it off and then drill out the rest. Why did they even bother putting locktite on it?
