Hi folks, long time no see. I still run my V8 Limited as a daily driver around Townsville – or at least did until a couple of days ago…. Driver’s seat belt jammed (Klippan) so I took it apart to see what was what and it seems that one of the bearings is shot, allowing the whole drum to move sideways, resulting in the flimsy plastic belt guide around the drum breaking and jamming the mechanism. I so wish that the factory originals hadn’t been replaced <sigh>
A local parts dealer has been very helpful and was happy to sell me an almost identical Klippan belt for a different vehicle but when I checked the differences in detail, the mounting angle is critical. Everything is identical to mine except the position in which the little plastic cup holding the ball is located, and of course it’s plastic-welded in place. I am happy to buy a new unit, or a second-hand one (purely for research purposes, you understand…) but am struggling to find a supplier. As a last resort I could send the whole assembly away to be re-manufactured but I have been told that this could not be done before January. Can anybody help out here please? A driver’s retractor would be just what I would want to find in my stocking this Christmas. I have also placed a WTB post.
Thanks in advance – and a big “HI” to anybody who remembers me.

I have a TT wrecking in my back yard and I think the retractor is still there. Let me check tomorrow and let you know. Not sure if it's the same as the V8. I think it is but it would be great if someone can confirm.

Hi Danny - it should be the same since the critical thing seems to be the angle at which it is mounted, which should be the same for all Soarers I think. Look forward to hearing from you Champ!
Steve: I am guessing that you and I are old enough to know where the quote came from eh?

Steve, the same chap said "When it's time to die, let us not discover that we have never lived” so Carpe Diem!
I have sent a reply to your PM thanks - I had forgotten that this account is linked to an email account that I rarely use these days. Must be encroaching senility
