Hey guy well i got my front windscreen replaced today by one of the most recommend places here in Adelaide. Anyway looks like i got one of the bad apples from them, the guy rushed the job and up my factory black dash I was almost in tears seeing how much money im spending to get my car looking mint with only the best of gear and to have the second incident in two weeks occurring due to stupidity/laziness. Anyway how much is it for a mint factory black dash like the one i have/had and also how much for a brand spanking new one from toyota? Ill be seeing what their insurance says and im expecting to get declined and have to take it to court as i know the dash in black is damn expensive. Just wanna get your opinion on a rough figure i should tell the insurance company.

Where did you go mate? Pics of the damage? That sucks balls! I was pissed off when I got mine replaced about 18 months ago and they left the crusty old sealant all through the car, if they had broken anything I would have gone postal!
Give Adam or Simon a call at Jarvis toyota and quiz them, they should be able to get the ball rolling. Or I need to go there in the next day or two, I can do it for you if you'd like? The only thing is that I wouldn't be holding my breath on toyota actually having any new ones lying about :/

How the hell did he damage the dash putting a screen in?? At work we have one or 2 screens fitted a week never had any damage. Are they coming to the party with cost?

Well firstly wanna get some rough idea on price before going to their insurance. What the guy actually did was when trying to put the knife in between the windscreen and the dash he pulled back and used the dash as leverage and also smacked it a few times. Hard to explain how he did it. Anyway he brought the wrong screen so when he went back to get a different one i had a look at it and took some photos for evidence. I was kind of thinking that when he glues it all up that the damage might be covered by the black surround on the new windscreen but unfortunately its not and you can see it. Also damaged the top of the dash that covers the instrument cluster. If that wasnt enough he demolished my mirror block and said i would have to pay for it with my own cash. And lastly im not sure if it hate it or not but the glass has a blue/green tinge through it thats very light but noticeable and all my other windows are crystal clear and getting tinted tomorrow. So haven't decided on whether i like it that way or whether im pissed off that the car doesnt look uniform. Oh and yeah i got glue and all kinds of all on my carpets/dahs/interior, put he stupid greasy tools on my drivers seat that i paid a month ago to get professionally cleaned.
To top of two weeks of bullshit, last weekend some wanker couldnt be arsed reversing and tried squeezing in between my car and another. End result is a small linear dent but worst thing is the paint has come off. Now i have to chase this idiot for insurance and get them to paint it pearl again. Arghhh if only there was a cure with stupidity!
ps. from what im thinking a black dash is about $1000 isnt it.

Nah i think the company itself is very good as at least 100 windscreens that i know of have been changed by them without any drama. Was talking to the guy when he was installing my screen and he said he had only been working for them for 3 months so i think its the worker rather than the whole company.

Yeah that is very true, im more incline to think he got the correct training but personal habits of doing a job quicker and pissing off home earlier probably were why this happened.

maybe ask the owner/manager, about it? and tell them what one of the workers did, and how they will rectify the dodgy job? due to it not being proper procedure i would say he will be in for an ass kicking?

Yeah ill be doing that just need to find the time, no much stuff on my plate as always. The guy was actually at top bloke but his attitude to the job in general was sub par.

What worries me with those sort of incidents is how much effort they will put into repairing it.
Dash replacement is a mission, you can bet they will be looking to do this as cheaply as possible so make sure you don't let them do the repairs! Insist on having someone reputable do the work, a dash replacement isn't something you want an amateur doing.

Do it ASAP as well, the longer you leave it the more deniability they could possibly have. I agree with going down the avenue of speaking to the owner/manager. Take the car in, show him the damage as well as the photos if need be. Don't rant and rave, just be rational and calmly explain the story and discuss with them what they're prepared to do to cover the damage. It also wouldn't hurt to mention that you're part of a car club where a lot of referral business may or may not come from. Good luck with it!

Best thing before going in is to give these guys a call http://www.ocba.sa.gov.au/consumeradvice/complaints/index.html (Office of Consumer & Business Affairs) so that the steps you take & the discussions made are in line with the consumer protection laws. OCBA will advise you that you need to discuss the situation prior to an official case being lodged with them. If you have no love with initial discussions with the service provider, they will step in & be "the rottweiler" for you, pushing for a result. I would suggest a bullet point explanation with dates as to what has happened. You need to be clear as to what your expected outcome is too...a complete list of demands so to speak & in writing, dated & signed, should be given to the manager at the end of first discussion (please once again check that this is in line with OCBA guidelines...it differs from state to state, this is just a guide from me). As stated by Brenton, be rational as this may be resolved after this first discussion. Mention that you have spoken with the OCBA & they will intervene if your requests are not met. I'd be pretty upset if this was my soarer. Sorry to hear the story mate. Best of luck

David, I got a call back from Toyota today mate. Apparently the 91-93, 94-96 and 97> are all different (I'm assuming something to do with the passenger airbag?). Anyways, 91-96 are no longer available in any colour and the 97> are still available, but made to order at the factory, so expect a 9+ week wait after order till delivery. The other issue is that the part number is not on file, meaning that no Australian Toyota dealership has ever ordered one. This means that they would need to apply to Toyota Japan to see if they can even sell it to you before they can work out a price.
I'm starting to lean towards a used one at a wreckers and a trip to a motor trimmers!

At my work we get windscreens pulled out and put in everyday, lol sometimes we need to tell the company employers how to do the job, there just a bunch of un-trained un-qualified people. Usually one of them is ok, but the others do all sorts of stupid things when changing windscreens like putting there feet on the window to pressure it out(sometimes breaking them!) using the car seats to stand on while cutting the window out, not fitting windows right.
Dave if I were you I would speak to the company's manager about this problem and ask them to pay a fare share, as they caused damage. If they don't pay for it you don't necessarily have to buy a new dash, you may be able to get it repaired or find a good second hand one. If you could mate, post some pictures up of the damage, would be interesting to see. Good Luck mate
