So I decided to check them out today...
LOL
Do people usually just replace these or clean them out? Any tips for cleaning. I've tried running it through water and doesnt do much so I think just straight replacements may be in order.

Mine were in a similar state and I found the best way to clean them was to put them in the sink with a 1" deep strong solution of carpet cleaner, 'slapping' them into the solution. You can try using a stiff brush too, but mind that you don't damage the paper fibres. The muck that comes out is quite amazing - I had to change the solution three times before it was clean. I then dosed them with some air freshener and popped them back in.
