Hey to all. I saw a soarer with gloss black painted woodgrain and I wanna do the same. How would I achieve this? What things do i need to do ? Prep ? Paint ? Clear Coat ? Cheers Mick

Don't paint the wood ones (plenty of documented failures)... get a set of plastic ones from a 'pov pack' and strip them back to bare plastic, given them a light sanding and then paint them with plastic primmer and then paint them using gloss paint.

documented failures?
Buy some clear contact and just cover em... cheap, easy and looks good.
I ended up getting mine painted after i wasted hours trying to sand and polish the crappy woodgrain. Sanded em hardcore... then primed.. then painted with gloss black. *btw - i paid a professional to do the job (200 for all the bits and also my centre console surround thingo, looked HOT)

what about just getting some black contact like the stuff people put on school books
^^^^ OOOOPS that what i meant, dont know why i typed clear. ANyways, yeh ive seen some of those done like that and it looked great. Can get HEAPS of different colours also (just go to a sign / sticker making company)
** NOTE - make sure you ask your mum to cover them for you so you dont get any bubbles in it

No Michael its a dash kit mate, works real well, if you are interested in checking it out further let me know. Send me a PM and i can give you all the details, it was well worth the spend as you can see the before and after pics, makes a huge diff.
I am in the process of redoing my interior so i will have a heap of before and after shots to show everyone. But that Dash Kit is seriously good quality, UV resistant etc etc. Uses special catalyst to help the adhesive, so it is designed for that purpose.
Anyway let me know if you want any more info, but if you are not wanting to spend too much, i know Tim Ross's Soarer has what looks like carbon fibre contact, i tried to find that stuff but had no luck. Maybe you can find it, otherwise i would say some good quality vinyl contact from a vehicle sign manufacturer would do the job.

Gday Michael (Lucas) mate it isnt the contact that we covered our books with at school. It is a proper dash kit in black carbon fibre finish.....check out my thread on the before and after transformation, to be added tomorrow.

I used contact for mine. Over last years intense summer, I had no problems what so ever. I had the idea that if I didn't like, I could just peel it back to the woodgrain. Passengers don't even pick it and are dumb founded when I tell them it's what you use to cover your applicable math books back in school.

The air vents bits get tricky, as when putting the vents back in for assembly, its pretty tight, and can cut or tear the contact. Look for the soft/stretchy ones, as the hard/thick contacts go hard, bubble and may shrink..
