They were standard from '94 on I think. At least I've never seen a '94 or later without one.

Our first Soarer, a '95, was Pov Pack with no woodgrain but had the cupholder.

I reckon it's one of the nicest interiors ever offered on a "reasonably priced" car. The only thing that dates it a bit is the straight lines where modern cars have more curvy/swoopy lines (check out the Koleos Privilege). Other than the Koleos, the only "common" cars offering beige interiors (VW/Skoda- if you can find one so optioned!) mix the beige with dark grey which looks vastly inferior to the Soarer Ivory interior.

As for keeping clean, it's far easier (other than the contortions required to get in the back) for me than the jet black of the Rexton, which shows every bit of fluff and hair (especially my daughter's - it's red!).

Scuff marks do show on the pale plastic interior pieces but they aren't hard to remove (Jif and the like is good).

Just before i decided to paint mine i did the obligatory clean of the door trims and what not using that orange hand scrub.

The amount of crap that came off amazed me and the results and the new colour of my ivory sections brought back some love for the original interior.
BUT - that big brown dash HAD TO GO haha

*point of the post? - get some orange hand cleaner (one with bits of pumice in it) and clean your ivory bits. Do a before and after pic so you can show it to other non believers

To my mind the "poo brown" goes with the Ivory perfectly, but each to their own. Depending on exterior colour, jet black might look OK in some cars- but we live in the tropics and I can feel the difference in the dash temperature between the Rexton (black) and the Soarer's Ivory interior. Since nearly every car on the market has black or dark grey, the brown/beige colours are a marked point of difference and one reason I'll hang onto the gorgeous Soarer.

Yeah James im planning on doing that very thing hopefully this weekend, I will take before and after shots for sure. I have also decided to take your advice on changing the brown dash, thought it may grow on me but after doing the rest of the interior black and beige I have to do that dash as well.

Will keep you guys posted with pics hopefully after this weekend. But im also in the process of painting my car so im flat out prepping it at the moment. WIll also keep you all posted on that little project too.

Cheers

Thats very true Mike, my car does cool down very quickly when the aircon is on, while my wife's black interior Primera, despite having a stronger fan, and what feels like a colder vent temp, does take a lot longer to cool down in the summer. Mind you its also a wagon so has a much bigger space to cool.

You can imagine our Rexton then, Matthew, when it's 40+C (very frequent here through summer, in fact day after day and can hit 45C easily), the Rexton is also dark on the outside (deep wine), although it has dual aircon it takes ages to cool down. The fact that the Soarer gets the one and only carport doesn't help either!

We checked out a possible replacement for the Rexton while away on holidays recently, and after convincing my wife of the virtues of light coloured interiors AND exteriors she took one look at a gunmetal car and said "I want that colour"!

thanks for the pics.

i needed it for a "project" book for a apprenticeship job application. i got the job :-)

i'm not really a fan of the poo brown. so glad i painted it black. it just looks so much better and makes the car feel alot more classy and expensive which is what you want with a car like ours

i also think another big thing that makes the difference is some people have the leather seats rather then the material ones. leather ones makes the car look alot cleaner and professional and blends the color scheme better in my opinion

Congrats on the job, Shane.

Compared to the usual cloth the velour seats look pretty classy to me. Leather has its issues especially in hot climates, although I agree a well-looked after leather seat looks terrific. We provided might even be going for leather (in beige!)in our next lease car provided I get a posting away from the tropics.

As for the dash colour combination, maybe it's an "oldie" thing but the Ivory looks far better paired with the "poo brown" rather than grey or black, and is almost unique these days of the ubiquitous dark shades of black or grey. I've seen (in fact owned) burgundy-interiored cars and it looked fabulous, with the right exterior colour (silver, in the case of the Kingswood). It was "over the top" on a friend's Hilux Surf when the entire interior (including steering wheel) was burgundy, and the car colour was the same! Each to their own:-)

The turd interior can look great and modern if you colour the top half (i.e. above the woodgrain - dash, window surrounds) in black with VHT dye. Update your interior with a SC430 steering wheel too. Id kill to have a full tan interior, rather than my revolting spruce one.

My next project...

My interior was looking a bit shabby, so I decided to take it out and give it a bit of a clean with the Fast Orange hand cleaner...and was absolutely staggered to see how filthy the leather actually was.
Takes a bit of time, but the results speak for themselves.

decent results in your pic

Hi Shane
I got it from Supercheap. The choice came from the "Soarer Fix It" Book.

Upload

The text that comes with it is as follows:
Preface:
An upholstery guy advised me to clean the door panels and dash, and handed me a huge bottle of Fast Orange Hand Cleaner and some cloth and asked me to try it.
My jaw simply dropped when I realised how well it cleans out all the dirt. In a few seconds the whole cloth piece was absolutely black and the spot I was working on has completely changed it's colour from almost charcoal grey to light grey. I have done my whole interior and no one can believe that the panels are over 10 years of age.
The best thing about the cleaner is that it has no Petroleum Solvents that can be bad for your leather. The guy who did my seats has been in this industry for over 30 years working for car dealers, private homes, and even military. He has told me that no leather cleaner can clean as well as this Fast Orange stuff (even the Soft Scrub) and that this is one of the very rare products that won't hurt leather.

Cleaning Directions:

1. Take a piece of cloth and put some Fast Orange Hand Cleaner on it.
2. Rub your leather/vinyl with it until you get all the dirt out (you'll know when)
3. Take another piece of cloth and soak it with water.
4. Go over the spot or a panel you were working on to wash off all the leftovers of Fast Orange (Otherwise you will have white residue)
5. Use the leather conditioner of your choice to get the depth and colour back to your leather/vinyl and you are done.
