So i've got a new steering wheel for my soarer and i was just alittle concerned about getting defected for it if i'm pulled over.
I read here
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/pdf/ADRApplicabilitySummary_M_GroupSeptember2009v1.pdf
and there's no mention of the steering wheel having to be adr approved, just the steering column and my boss kit is adr approved.

So am i right in thinking there is no legal issues with fitting my aftermarket steering wheel?

Yeah, It has to be a minimum size mate . I think 330mm diameter is minimum size ( check your local rta website ).

Yeah or if you have to change the steering wheel hub you need that approved. The one that's in the 260z we're building has to get approved before we put it on.

You probably can't replace an air bag wheel with a non air bag one

Who woulda guessed ALL can be found at the Queensland Transport Website?

Steering wheels
Altering a steering wheel might affect a vehicle's
compliance with the Australian Design Rules (ADRs)
applicable to occupant impact protection.
Steering wheels fitted to vehicles manufactured to
comply with ADR 10/.. may only be replaced by a
steering wheel which has been tested to comply with
ADR10/... Where these ADRs apply, the vehicle's steering
column and steering wheel are designed to minimise
injury to the driver in the event of a crash.
Vehicles that are required to comply with ADR 69/.. or
ADR 73/.. or where originally fitted with a driver airbag
must not be fitted with a replacement steering wheel
without an airbag, unless it is supplied by the vehicle
manufacturer as an option for that model.
The diameter of any replacement wheel may be up to
25mm smaller than the original wheel but must not
be less than 350mm.

But really, at the end of the day common sense applies mate, just dont install some welded chain from Mad Max and i dare say you will get away with it. Police have bigger fish to fry such as their battle against PTTCCHHHHHHHH making devices haha

lol sooo true, i'm really just trying to get my head round all this car modifying red tape, being a pommy immigrant i've been spoilt by having zero rules on car modifications.

I've read the bit you've posted quite a few times now during my searching for the answer, are aftermarket items stamped with some kind of adr code then? such as a steering wheel having the code adr10/00 and hub kit adr00/01?

think you're probably right though, i should stop being such a dick and just fit it and not worry about it.

Not sure if they are stamped as such but i would assume they are...

I would doubt very much that the sparco wheel is ADR but i wouldnt really worry about it too much mate, there are only a few steering wheels getting around that ARE ADR'd... some Autotechnica, some OBX, there is a list of them ONLINE if you are really keen.

Yup just bolt it on mate and enjoy the sparco goodness like i do when i sit in my lovely Sparco Torino seats!

Wheel has to be ADR to be legal. Only all MOMO wheels are ADR complied, a few autotechnica whatever but they look terrible. Cops will notice it, well in SA they would atleast. Mainly the issue is that the wheel doesnt bend/snap during an impact. The main issue for me would be insurance, in the even of an accident you might not get a pay out with the sparco wheel and also if your injured and cant work you might not be able to get compo.

Also if your coming from a factory airbag steering wheel you cant downgrade to a non airbag steering wheel no matter if it is ADR approved.
