my guess is you have to wedge between the knobs and frame and push it out evenly on either ends of the knobs. There could be a thin "c" shape clip that goes around the shaft.

Got them off, and you were right, there was a little c clip in there, I had to use my giant brain and make a coat hanger tool (haha) to get them out. Worked a charm!
Now im working on dyeing up the rest of the plastic bits and I'll be finished. Ive dyed the velour and it turned out great, nice n black!
nearly finished I'll put up some pics when im done with a comparison.

VHT on fabric is colourfast and wont come off if you take the time to prep your surface properly. This product also has a one week curing timeframe, maybe if you dont follow instructions properly then you may run into trouble. If you do then expect a world of black bliss.
