One of the local speed shops here is having a grey lace-on leather cover made in Taiwan, which I think will work well on the Soarer. He's only got brown ones at present, but will have the grey's in a month or so. I'll put one in my car, post pictures and if they're not generally available around the traps I might be able to help you. Lace-on covers can look good if fitted correctly, and they are wide enough so that the stitching meets on the inside of the rim. Also, for under $40 they're a good, long lasting 'fix' for the usual wheel deterioration problem.

Excellent info John, BUT speaking for MYSELF, I would prefer to spend $200 (approx) on a professionally recovered one, more for authenticity's sake than anything else.

But, as I've said before: "Each to their own"

How's the lower arm bushes coming along?

Hi Don, The lower arm bushes are coming along just fine! I had new tyres fitted to the car as part of the roadworthiness thing, and I had a wheel alignment done too! Amazing! 14mm of Toe Out was the worst spec but camber and cast were more than 300% out too. I drove about 1300 Kms from Adelaide to Hobart on those settings - no wonder I was tired for a few days after the trip. Good job the tyres were just about buggered before I started, because they certainly would have been afterwards. My car, with the track day jumper installed, and its new tyres feels great now! Nice end to this story - the mechanic doing the wheel alignment told me I had a complete set of new Nolathane bushes in place, but he reckons the alignment possibly hadn't been done after they'd been fitted, and a follow-up alignment after they'd bedded in had definitely not been done. I can certainly understand now why my car had major tramlining issues and wanted to go and hide in the bushes on every little road irregularity! Thanks for your interest.

Nolathane bushes won't help your ride comfort either.

Thanks Peter, I'm promising the car a set of Vlamos bushes when I have the spare cash. The nolathanes are not bad, certainly better than totally shagged-out standard ones, I suppose. Ride is not bad - bit of road noise gets through but its liveable.

A follow-up on the steering wheel covers. They finally arrived, but when I tried one on my wheel, it was immediately apparent that the cover is by no means wide enough to wrap more than three-quarters around the rim, which looks even worse than one of those slip-on wheel covers. I wasn't brave enough to take off the old (factory) cover as I wasn't sure what I'd find underneath, but certainly this cover is not going to work. Pity. I guess I'll just have to get my wheel professionally retrimmed one of these days......

In the states I usually have the leather wrap on around steering wheel cover.. I love them, and they fit the vehicles I buy.. but the steering wheels are usually far smaller than the soarers :-(

But I do agree with you John.. I like the look of them :-)

HeHe! I think you've covered the main points nicely.

Sounds a bit of a drama for Ally?. Is she ok with it all?.
I presume (Hope!) it's not a "High Risk" surgery type operation

Keep on, Keeping on Katrina

Well the main points for me are like an open book LOL.. you open up the subject and it all spills out with me.
As for Ally, its not a drama... its a stress. I have known about the hole in her heart since she was 18 months old.. known that surgery would be a deffinete, never a way around it. She is 3 now, and the word surgery doesnt phase her.. I tell her she is going to have surgery on her heart and her response is "ok mommy :-) " .. Remember to a 3 yr old that word doesnt have a double meaning of pain or fear.
It will be open heart surgery.. they have to open her chest, cut an insision on the side of her heart, sew up the hole in the heart, sew up the side of her heart and sew her chest up. It honestly doesnt phase me anymore. And most ppl who hear it think OMG!! A single mom of 2 little kids!! Your 3 yr old has to have open heart surgery!! .. blah blah.. I'm strong enough, I'll survive :-)
There's no way I'd be where I am if I wasn't strong enough *smile*

Sorry John, didnt mean to over take your thread.. I do like the lace on steering wheel cover tho :D
