Ali has forgotten a very important step with Toyota Soarer steering wheels at point 4.
4A). Once the torx screws have been removed, and the airbag is disconneted as well as the horn/cruise control, it is time to take the centre lock nut off, (very large socket required) and put it in the centre console box so you dont lose it. This is an important step.
Firmly grasp the steering wheel with BOTH hands, and pull it towards you with several violent jolts to loosen it.
Eventually, it will gradually give way and gently slide off the steering column.

Thanks guys. My new steering wheel is a non air bag one so I won't need to connect the air bag back up. haha yer I'd definately see that massive centre lock nut. : P

You will probably find removing air bag equipped steering wheel and replacing with a Non Airbag wheel is illegal in most states and could leave you liable in an accident .

Not that i know of Wayne ? it just sees a problem in the airbag circuit, once tripped the light stays on! maybe joining the wires that went to the airbag could fix it ,but you would have to reprogram the airbag system using the OBD connector to put the light out.

Ok after 2 hours I finally now have a non airbag steering wheel installed. It was no way as easy as the list at the top haha. Things you guys need to know is that the brackets On the airbag wheel which include the horn and cruise control. They need to be screwed into the non airbag wheel. Also you need to cut the horn cable in the airbag wheel bracket and connect it to the horn cable in the non airbag wheel! But after 2 hours I have got it done I know have the cruise control also sitting perfectly and the horn worked haha

Will you get a roadworthy or whatever the Aussie equivilant of a WOF?
Here in NZ if the vehicle was fitted with an airbag or any other safety feature it has to be working at the time of the 6 monthly vehicle inspection otherwise you will fail.
You can get the vehicle certified to get features like ABS, Airbags etc removed but that's costly and has some caveats.
The vehicle will be marked as having airbag(s) and there is a test procedure to ensure they are still working. Turn vehicle ignition to on and the light will come on for a period of time and then go off.
Interested to hear what the aussie side of things is like.

Nah mate not doing any of that As far as im concerned it will be rare that anyone will pick up on it since we dont need those 6 month things as well as they are pretty dumb down at regency. If it happens and somehow they get onto me after i get puled over and they want to know where the airbag is ill tell them "its in the boot mate" haha
