The buttons around the EMV and the Cassette deck, are they all Backlit. The Japanese Writing buttons around the screen, and one on the Cassette do, but none of the others do. The 5 buttons and rocker switch on the Bottom do not light up, nor the 5 Top buttons. I have just replaced the globes with Leds behind the Temp – Vol knobs, and I am now wondering about pulling out the EMV and checking for globes as above. But it will be a Big Pain if there is no globes there!!!

Yes they should all light up.
3 globes behind the AC controls above the EMV. then there is separate bulbs behind the Japanese writing buttons.

Some buttons may not light up due to nothing being connected. For example, If you have no Tape in the cassette player the Tape button will not light up. But when you put a Tape in the light will light up.

David, Thanks for your reply. I bit the bullet and pulled out the EMV. There was a problem with the globes in the cassette unit that I think I have fixed. Checked globes, one blown that I replaced, too hard to wire in LED/resistor. Nothing back yet. Will check top buttons today.
The biggest PAIN is removing all these big wiring plugs, with the 'kiddie safe' clips, I cracked it with one and broke the clip off!!!

Yeah they are an issue! I hate pulling the ones under the shifter apart for that exact same reason.

They should all light up unless as mentioned before, somethings not hooked up right or a blown bulb. People have done LED conversions on the lot. I just converted the AC controls as my Japanese writing buttons has Dave Rose's English translation stickers on them and don't seem to be very bright.

let me know if you get stuck or if you want to know what LED's you need to do the conversion as i had them written down somewhere.
