Does anyone know if there are any other Toyota models that use the same seat belts as the Soarer? Are the Supra belts interchangable to the Soarer?
It seems there are heaps of guys on here at the moment looking for replacement seatbelts. And I would prefer to replace mine with something newer, or preferably brand new, but not keen to pay the stupid prices quoted from toyota.
Anyone know the part number for spruce belts for a 91 TT?

I hear ya mate, I have recently changed my interior colour from brown to black and I have stupid brown seat belts.
The seatbelts in the Soarer (imports) are not Toyota seat belts, they are just generic inertia belts as opposed to the pretensioner Toyota originally supplied.
If you pull the rear door trim off you will see what I mean. As far as I can tell you may just be able to grab some belts off a Commodore or something.
If I was you I would pull the trim off, have a good look at the inertia reel and the buckle (next to the console) and just hit up wreckers looking for a similar belt, I think the only thing that would be a pain is trying to find a buckle that is the same height so you can mount it in the stock location without it looking silly.
Otherwise perhaps look at the eBay link below, obviously you would need to make sure it was ADR compliant and you would need to find someone who could sew the buckle on as I am sure there are regulations regarding what type of thread to use, what stitch to do etc.

Also check these guys our, quoting from there website here
Rewebbing a seatbelt utilizes the original manufacturers interia reel and fittings to ensure your vehicle maintains the most suitable and appropriate parts. A new piece of webbing is fitted and sewn into the reel and meets Australian Standards AS1753.
Includes re-webbing of both the tounge and buckle in any chosen colour.
They are in WA and charge $120 per side, I know it's not cheap but at least you are getting a brand new belt that meets Australian standards. To be honest I am thinking the belt isn't the problem it's the sewing and they fact that they put there name to it to confirm it's safe....not that anyone could tell the difference, well until you crash.
But yeah looks like $600 if you want the front and back, but you could get away with doing the front only and it wouldn't be too noticeable.
But personally for that sort of money I am just going to shop around for a second hand set from a another car that fits.

Good find Gary, that looks like the cheapest and best place to get replacement belts. I just had a quick look and there is like 200 models so finding one that has a buckle the same height as the soarer shouldnt be a problem.

Make that seatsafe.com.au
I did ring them before I fixed my own belt and they said that they could do a replacement for a JZZ30 Soarer, so there shouldn't be a problem with buckle height. I do recall reading here somewhere that buckles are matched to clasps so that may also be worth bearing in mind. Contact them and they will email out a colour chart of available colours, and they will even send out a swatch to colour match if you ask.

They would fit fine considering the ones on our Soarers are not the original toyota ones.
When they come in (import) they have to replace the seatbelts. The Soarers are actually supposed to have pretensioners, which is why if you pull the trim off there is a small plug not connected to anything anymore.
So the ones in our Soarers are in fact just aftermarket AUS complying belts/buckles and stalks.

Michael can you keep us informed where you are going to get the new belts and how did you go installing them? Lots of interest in seat belts because it is a very common problem with Soarers. Because they are a primary safety feature I don't think we should muck around with the mechanism afterall it is not a lot of money getting a new set.

Fixed my seat belts on the weekend. My front belts won't retract and two weeks ago the passenger side belt got stuck half way. It wouldn't unwind any more and it was not long enough to buckle the passenger.
I took off the trims and found pieces of broken plastic inside the reel. One piece was caught in the reel and stopping it from working.
There is a piece of very thin plastic at both ends of the spool (this is where the belt winds around). This had broken off and jammed the belt stopping the spool from retracting and unwinding.
I dug out all the broken pieces with a screwdriver and with a long nose plier removed the half broken pieces from the spool. Gave both moving ends of the spool a good spray of WD40 and my belts now work fine.
There are plastic covers on the outside of both ends of the spool, there is a warning on the covers not to remove those covers, the mechanism inside is not servicable. You don't have to remove the covers, the pieces causing the problem can easily be removed with a screwdriver and long nose plier.
My driver side belt is starting to fray and the problem is the reel was not properly aligned. Since you have the trims removed it is an easy fix. Extend and retract the belt and see if the side of the belt is rubbing on the reel. If it is just loosen the one bolt holding the reel and align the angle so the belt is not touching anything when it is extended or retracted.
