Just recently got a new interior drivers door handle so the issue is not with that, the cables both connect to the handle and pull fine, but when pulled the door does not open, if I reach out and pull the outside handle it open fine, any suggestions?

hhhmm, spoke too soon, gone again, with the door panel off and looking inside when i pull the cable the lever moves, but when i put it all back together it worked for a day then gone again,any idea s what to look for? Thanks

sometimes the cable is stuffed. the outer shielding comes loose and allows everything to move instead of just the inner cable, (like a handbrake cable on a bike, the outer needs to be held firm and the inner move inside it.)

Thanks Tom Only further investigation today i have found everything seems to be working fine, cables etc, tested with the door open and all works fine but if i reach out and pull the entire door inwards (specifically around the door catch area) then pulling the interior handle opens the door. So something is either preventing the door from closing tightly ( but i cannot see what, door panels etc are all tight, and rubber seal is sitting correctly) or... The door is tilting a little? and snagging the catch? pulling the door inwards lines it up?
still trying to figure out what it is, and further advice is appreciated.

the cable is all i can think of. With the panel off operate the inside open handle and look at the cable where it is "clamped". Is the inner cable moving correctly and opening the door latch fully.

Yes it is Tom, so it seems to be the non alignment when the door closes that is causing the jam, i'll keep playing around with it, at least i'm getting closer to the cause, thanks for replying.

Did you check your hinge for excessive wear? Open the door fully, then grasp the outer lower edge and try to see if there is movement in the hinge. There should be no movement in the hinge bearings. Did you check the latch that the door closes on to see if it is loose? Alignment of this latch - again hinge bearings worn perhaps. You can check latch alignment by closing the door so that you can see where the latch is in relation to the door lock that it fits into. Should have same clearance top and bottom of latch. Hope this helps.

The cables have a plastic lip which slots into a holder to ensure the cable outer doesn't move. These can break off, the one inside the door at the latch end is probably the culprit, a well placed cable tie around the latch bracket can fix this.
