Are the upper parts of the drivers seat and the passenger seat interchangeable?

I've done a lot of messing around with seats. I'm tall, have a 31 with a sunroof and have always been trying to get a bit more headroom. From what I've seen of my 96' era leather seats, and the Supra seats I've also purchased there are from memory big pressed metal or welded axle sort of hinges at the axis which look virtually impossible to remove/refit without completely breaking down the entire structure and doing some re-welding.
I'd like to keep my 96 uprights and have the lower Supra bases but I dont think it's gonna happen working at home with it.

I was thinking of using the leather covering from a passenger seat to replace the damaged leather on the drivers seat.
