Anyone know a decent plastic welder or trim repairer in Melbourne? Want to fix my window surrounds. Clips are broken.

Mate not sure if a plastic welder is the answer. It's the age brittleness is the prob. Welding lugs back on only leads to breaking somewhere else

Yeah, what Tim Said.

A lot of the plastic is like dried pasta, easily cracks with little pressure.

Some plastics are better than others, but sadly the door trims / window surrounds and others aren't the best 24 years on.

Only way to help strengthen weakened areas is with fiberglass and epoxy.

Even then, Soarer interiors need to be treated nicely if you want them to last.

Yeah but clips are broken so it doesn't even clip in. Wouldn't bother strengthen it when it doesn't even clips in place.

I repaired all my trims using a Dinitrol product called Skimfix 840 Rapide. Its a 2 pack product and you do need to by the gun for it to go in, but it worked a treat. Once its hard you can shape it however you want. It is expensive stuff but worth it.

What about the clips that are broken off?

Scott, I've rebuilt my clips (ie. constructed new ones) using Wurth Replast. Its some sort of two pack epoxy that many of the retrimmers use. Its a plastic adhesive but sets like stone and I've used it to strengthen problem areas on the trim and to make new tabs. I've tried loads of products but this is the only thing that seems to be holding up without any problems. As with the one Ross mentions above, its not cheap and you need to buy a gun to go with it (having a look on eBay, you can get both from the UK for $105).

I think the Wurth product is made by Dinitrol so probably the same brew. I made the mounts for the clips and shaped them with a small linisher.
