The woodgrain is laminated with layers of other wood, and aluminium, to make it stronger, and importantly, to enable a thin layer of high quality wood (birds-eye maple) to be used on the outside.
Good wood is in short supply, and it uses an awful lot when it's in big chunks. Veneering enables a small amount to go a long way, and in the case of the woodgrain on our cars, the veneers are moulded into the shapes we see presumably using heat and pressure (as well as glue), so the thin but lovely piece is outside with stiffening behind.
Hence my distress at seeing beautiful wood covered over with paint and other yukky stuff

is it worth considering applying another clear coat? Or will this finish last a while? Now I have my windows tinted and I keep the Soarer out of the sun, should be all good
