Does anyone know where I can get a set of scuff plates from? I'm after the "Lexus" ones. Here is a picture for reference. Also what is the price on these? Can they be modified to do some sort of lighting behind them?

They look so cool. I wonder if those can be done with the sills bought from VFTBushes.com? The price for the Japanese versions of these are $100 more than the one from VFT. Works out to something like $213 vs $115 (not including postage on either).

It was probably translated by them with Google, and they have no idea what it says. Try using Google to translate an English advertising page into Japanese, then send it as a business proposition to someone in Japan...

Do Vlam's door sills have adhesive on the back? What have others used to stick them down with?
For anyone who's fitted a set, did you prepare the surface with anything first?
How about a group buy?.....Andrew?

Sam, I'm bringing a BRAND NEW set to Neil's do.
I decided not to fit them to mine (for no particular reason ). They cost about $135(AUD) including postage to NZ.

I am selling for $100(AUD) with a complimentary tube of silicone adhesive (Black)thrown in.

I've got a set from Andrew about 2 yrs ago, still sitting in the shed in the original packaging, ha ha (plain lazy) but from memory i don't remember any adhesive on the back. If i check em out and they do have adhesive I'll let u know.
As for fixing them I was going to use Sikaflex (I love that stuff). Preparation would be just a clean with a wet rag. Though if my memory serves me correct the ridges on the plastic sill plate need to be ground down so that the lexus/soarer plate doesn't interfere too much with the door seals.

That's right Andreas. They have no adhesive on them, which is why I bought the tube Black stuff.
And YES the ridges need removing.

Removing the ridges shouldnt be necessary if the glue/tape you use doesnt raise the plates too much.
I couldnt be stuffed removing the ridges and used extremely thin double sided tape and its been stuck pretty good for the last 2 years..

Nah. I'll be bringing them with me Sam

David, I have an unfortunate habit of purchasing with the heart, and not thinking about whether I REALLY want/need these things.
I very nearly parted with $385(AUD) + freight to NZ for a Lexus horn pad from Castle Hill Toyota, but common sense (finally) prevailed, and I continue to live (happily) with the Soarer one.

Don are they still available as far as you know? I don't suffer form buyer's remorse. I assume they're ok for an air bag steering wheel.

I've just checked their web site Sam, and they're not showing them any more, but it would pay to send them an email in case they still carry them, but have removed them from the web page.

It's amazing the difference it makes when done right. Thanks Rob Hayden for kicking my ass. The razor blade and chisel worked a treat. Re-painted the original sills with black vinyl spray paint and stuck the plates down with black one-piece double sided tape. I would strongly urge anyone thinking of installing scuff plates NOT to use Sikaflex. I learned the hard way. Perfect now though.
