Here are some photos, I still have another coat to apply , as you can see they were taken in the direct sunlight so when in the car it will be as black as black.

This photo is after I wash the carpet and as you can see most of the previous pigment washed out.

my picture

This photo shows the half I've just done and the other half not touched....big difference

my picture

Same as pic two just a different angle

It is applied with a spray gun then massaged through....Hot boiling water must be used as well white vinegar.

See you Saturday

Hmm, interesting. Does this dye come in red Joe? I want to dye my floormats.. I'm really hating the current grey coloured mats I have right now.

Would you be able to post pictures of it being in the soarer? It would definitely give the picture the dimensions it so desires.

With the age and wear and tear,I think nearly everybody in the club would want a new carpet for their pride and joy. Has anybody checked on getting some carpets made up?? I'm sure with the amount of members needing a new carpet that it would be cost effective to make some up.

i was told that it would be so expensive to make replica's that i would be better off ripping one out of a wreck.

That what was from a guy who makes them.

Ben, I think Bruce was referring to the idea of a bulk order. If it is a single order there is no doubt the person who said it would be correct, but if there is enough people who is doing an order then the cost of making them would be cheaper and or comparable to pulling one out of a wreck (and hey it could be a good thing, new carpet).

For me however, I first would need to purchase a soarer first, still looking for one (and have been for a few months now lol).

The reason that black is mostly used as an over dyed colour is due to the fact that nothing is darker than it....to dye it red is possible but in order to create and even tone you would need to strip as much colour as you can from the substrate product ...in this case(The floor mats) in order to avoid colour shading. However it can be done but black would be the safest option.

Sure ...once I’ve put the dash back together I'll post some interior shots.

This is the reason why the carpets out in the first place

Ben , the dye I used for the carpet as well as the one I used for the interior are not off the shelf products , I had a guy I know in the dying industry formulate them for me.

The problem with off the shelf products is that they’re designed to cater for a wide range of products and are not specific to one.... in other words (Jack of all trade but a master of none).

I'll post up some more information shortly once I've done a few more trials. Whilst I'm very pleased with the result so far I'll need to do a wash-out residue test just to make sure.

Joe

PS here is a link to my interior dyed black for those that hadn’t seen it.

Latest update.

The dye works brilliantly and does not bleed after the final wipe down....all I'm waiting on is the price .

In the meantime I have some dye left over and if anyone in Sydney wants their carpet re-dyed black for around $40.00 then I'm willing to do it with the remaining dye I have... ....probably enough to do 2-3 cars with?.

If so just send me an email.....all you have to do is pull out your carpet , wash it with soapy water , hose it down and hang it to dry...after that drop it off at my house and pick it up a couple of hours later.

Cheers

Not a problem Andrew....yes you can buy the dye but like I mentioned I'm still yet to the confirm price , as for the gravity feed spray gun I haven't used one of those before but I guess it should be fine.

I should have something early next week

Joe, I know that black would be the safest option but I'd much prefer a red carpet. I dyed the floormats on my V8 Soarer, but that was in a spruce interior. If I was to dye my carpets black in my black TT, the whole car may as well disappear into the night hehe.

Joe,

Are you saying that you are willing to do the work? Meaning, I would pay you to do it for me?

If so, how much will you charge for it to be done?

Cheers,

What I'm saying is.....I will Dye your carpet for $40.00 providing you do the following.

1) Deliver it to my house.
2) Take the carpet out and wash with soapy water
3) Hang it to dry.
4) Pick it up

The job will only take me a few hours ....I am only doing this until the dye I have runs out ....after that anyone can just buy it once I get the price finalized, as I mentioned I should have enough for around 3 cars

Vinh , I wasn't saying it cant be done I was just emphasising that when dying the result is only as good as the base that's its applied to , the better the preparation the better the outcome.

I can certainly get you the red dye..... however I will need a sample of the colour red you want to match it to.

Cheers
