Hi,

I just wanted to know what is involved in changing a horn pad? They are both air bag. Dose the air bag separate from the pad? And if doing a 94 soarer to 97 Lexus swap is it a straight fit, any modification required?

I'm no expert, Adam, and I can't answer your question about exchangability, but from a safety viewpoint you shouldn't dismantle an airbag! There is after all what amounts to an explosive charge in there, and you could do serious damage to yourself. Also, I'd be worried about issues like single stage/dual stage (which I believe have different sensors).

aw k I have seen horn pads for sale that didnt have an air bag attached but I dont know if they were off an air bag steering wheel. I think they might be able to be separated easily, but i could be very wrong. However if its a straight swap from 97 to 94 then i wont have to i can just swap the whole unit :-)

We have a '95 (same as '94) and a '97 and the airbag horn pads look the same to me.

I got a Lexus hornpad from the states bought over. Not sure of the year differences though. Then I had to put my airbag unit onto it as the one that was with it had to be removed for shipping. You unplug the large yellow plug from the airbag and then remove the hornpad/airbag. Then there are just a few (torque) bolts and the pad separates from the bag. Easy peasy.

Sounds good, the pads do look the same so it all sounds good. However, I still need to know if the holes for the bolts are all in the same place from 94 to 97. Thanks for your help guys.

Why not just re-leather your horn pad with the Lexus logo embossed into it? I'm pretty sure that'd be a much cheaper and easier option. You can get your pad covered in nicer leather, emboss any other custom logos on it, and change the colour of the pad if you wish.

Sounds like a good idea but would the pad still be able to split open if the air bag needs to do off ?

I don't think the leather "splits open" to allow the airbag to inflate, Adam. It's a cover which must move to one side, like the passenger airbag does. Like it's hinged.

Sorry Mike, it's a splitter type.
