Hello!

I have an air purifier in my car and the filter could not be salvaged. It looked like the dude had strained liquid tar through my filter.

i have called toyota and the replacement will cost $185 from japan..

HOWEVER!! does anyone know of some place, whether it be a air conditioning shop or something similar that sells activated carbon filters like the ones in the soarers air purifier? even if its the wrong size i don't really care i could always just jam it in there...

any ideas?

Thanks

I'd try the A/C shops but other car makes have these so you could see if they are any cheaper or even a wrecker may have one that can be cleaned.

Ew, I don't think I even want to look at mine after cleaning the A/C filter a few weeks ago - that was nasty enough.

Are the air con filters actually worth while having in the car? i took mine out... but are they carbon filers? or just like an air filter stopping dust and crap getting through?

They are just a fibre filter, but worth having from the look of all the bugs and crap I got out of it.

The air purifier just annoys me - even though its quiet when its on, it's still a constant wurr I don't need, so I leave it switched off.

The A/C filters are fibre but worth having. They take out a lot of dust, pollen and soot. The air purifier uses a carbon filter designed to take out smells and finer particles. It has little point while you have flow-through ventilation open because it does not operate on the intake air stream but on air in the car, which if you purify it with the vents open just disappears straight out the back anyway. Therefore, it is for use with the vent closed (recirculation) in which case the very moderate sound it makes is indistinguishable over the extra noise from the fan on recirculation, added to which you are probably stuck in traffic anyway. Only on high speed fan will I notice it in those circumstances.

The air purifier has an Auto and two fixed speed settings for the fan. It rarely if ever comes on around where I live but is useful when I travel in Sydney.
