Hey guys I search the forum but couldn't find any information regarding my problem. I parked outside last night on a downhill slope. when I got up this morning after a night of light rain the floor of the car was covered in water.
On closer inspection, it appears to be running from behind the A-pillar and dripping out near the dashboard to the right in between the doors and down onto the carpet.
Im going to take off the a-pillar and use some silicone around the windscreen in case its leaking from there. Mine also has a sunroof and I noticed that water has pooled in the front area of the roof near there the wind deflector pops up. Is there supposed to be a drain in there or should the sun roof not let any water in at all?
My roof lining is not wet, which makes me think that the water is supposed to run down the A-pillar and out a drain hole and on to the ground.
Has anyone had any simular problems and or offer advice? it scares me having so many electronic gizmos and so much water.

Daniel, There are two drain tubes that allow water to escape from the sunroof area, I suspect yours are blocked (not unusual). I think it unlikely that your windscreen is leaking.
The drain hoses are located at the extreme rear of the sunroof aperture, and are accessed by sliding the roof all the way back, and you'll then see the two drain holes.
The hoses are about 150cm long, and DO get blocked with general grunge, leaf litter etc and probably havn't been cleaned EVER.
Get something long, thin & flexible (like one of those stretchy privacy curtain thingos that ya have at home) and GENTLY push it down the tube(s) to clear the obstruction.
From memory they drain out under the rear wheel arches on both sides of the car.

Daniel, I have read of this problem in the past. Make sure the rubber seels around the top and side of your doors are clean - no built up crap. Water should definitely not be coming in through the sunroof.

Hey guys thanks for the quick response. I have turned the car around now so that the front in the high end, and it appears that it has stopped leaking. Are there any drain holes at the front?
Drain holes at the back are not going to be much use if the car is facing a downwards slope, due to the water pooling and overspilling at the low end.
I will go out now and clean them out, i have never done them and i assume that they were never done in japan.
Ive checked the doors seals they are in very good conditions, clean etc. hopefully this will fix it, its raining very quite heavy now so it shouldnt take long to see.

Hey Daniel, When the drain hoses are blocked, the water WILL pool at the front of the sunroof opening, then dribble down inside the car, which is what I suspect is happening in your case.......

Thanks for the help guys. I've cleaned the holes but noticed that it is still leaking slightly. I tested it with the hose, which I know is extreme but I wanted to get it right. It appears that the design has a small flaw in that once the water pools it is able to seep past the foam around the roof and the sunroof holding bay, then lap over into the roof lining. I think I might put some silicone around there, so if it does overflow it wont seep into the roof cavity, rather pool back until the drainholes can clear it.

Daniel, There is a HUGE difference between heavy rain & hose pressure. I would be surprised if it leaks under normal rain conditions after the drain tubes have been unblocked.

Hey all, good news finally fixed.
Don you were correct, the tubes were partially blocked and was the main cause of the issue. The second problem was with a piece of plastic that had slightly warped and was sitting slightly high (piece 63255 in the above picture).
The water was banking up and leaking through the gap running down the spinning rod and into the cabin.
I unscrewed piece 63255 and reset it with some silicone under it. On inspection of the other side the same piece sits flush and doesnt allow any water to leak.
It supprises me how a small gap can cause such a large leak.
Thanks heaps guys, there is nothing worse than getting into a car that is full of water.

Hi guys, maybe you can help me with this. With the roof slid back I couldn't see any drain holes. The roof itself seems to block off the view to the back.

Hi Malcolm. There are 4 sunroof drain holes, 1 in each corner. The front ones can be seen when the sunroof is open, rear holes are back inside the roof. There is a black plastic tray around the sunroof mechanism that holds the water & diverts it to these holes. First step is to make sure the tray is as clean as it can be, sponge it out, you should be then able to see the front holes, they are right in the corner. If they're blocked, light compressed air or whipper snipper cord can unblock them, be careful not to perforate the rubber drain tube that connects the tray to the underside of the car. You should be able to force water thru the tubes & it should run out under the car. Back holes are a bit harder, best is to locate the drain hoses, they run inside the inner wheel well & out behind the rear wheel. I've used low pressure compressed air to clear them but be careful. If you blow a hose off or perforate one you'll have to drop the headlining to re attach or replace them.
