Perhaps if Neil hadn't said it so well, I would have liked to have said it myself :-)

Hands up anyone that has never been speeding or done any street dragging!

Anyone?

Let me see, I drive a BMW M6, have I got anything to prove? Would I be bothered racing a Toyota....?

He was just playing with you. I've done similar things with boy racers in Corolla's.

A young guy was recently pulled up by the police. He gave his brothers name as he didn't have a license. The ticket was written and the young guy bragged about it on a car forum. The following day he was telephoned by the police at his work. They had read his post, contacted his mother, got the work number and rang him. Now he is in deep deep
False info, no license, bald tyres, and whatever else they can think of.

I think the reasons the M6 stayed around was:

1. Brand new and running in
2. New driver couldn't find the 'M' button
3. Driver had the adaptive 'follow the leader' cruise control on!

Doing it, and advertising it on the forum under a registered name with your numberplates clearly visible and in excessive detail, are two entirely different things.

Now I'm basing this on info we have here in Perth, but I'm guessing there are similar systems in place all around Australia.

VOI

What is a VOI?

Vehicle of Interest.
Cops have a method of monitoring cars that they believe are 'street racers', 'excessively modified', etc etc, you get the point.

They do not need to have any proof to register your numberplate as a VOI, this means your posts here can have an impact on how police treat you.

If you have a VOI, you will know about it. Constantly being pulled over and checked for mods is a very very big pain in the ass.

Joshua, police are not computers. They have the ability to comprehend and understand. They can use this ability to determine who they believe deserves a VOI and who doesn't.

If you get a VOI, de-reg your car, then re reg it with new plates.

Jeez, that's hard.

What is hard? For a piece of software to replace automatically one registration number with another against a VIN in the VOI list without the police even having to think about it?

How come such a powerful car still only manages a 12.4 on the 400? Thats really not much better than a lot of cars here can do, and a lot slower than a few.

So perhaps on a power to weight ratio, not that much better than Sam's car? Especially as he says he's done a 12.9, and I would assume the 12.4 for the M6 would have been posted by a professional test driver with years of experience... that would indicate that perhaps the M6 was in fact not toying with him, but making an honest effort (perhaps hampered by a less able driver than Sam?)

Here's a story:

I was driving down the freeway last night at 11:30pm, there were no cars around and I was curious how fast I can get from the city home. So I floored it all the way home, and I was on the limiter for the next 15 kilometres, felt good. Then when I turned off the freeway and pulled up at light, this nice and shiny Diablo pulled up right next to me. He revved at me, I revved at him, pulled the window down and said "Let's drag!!!!" So I stalled it up to 3500 rpm, and let it go on green, bloody turbo lag!! He went in front of me straight away with his V12 800 horsepower, then I slowly cought up to him, and as my big single hit 32 psi, I flew past him and left him about 5 car lengths behind, while at the same time smoking my tyres due to bad traction. For the sake of going faster I swithced on my Apexi RSM to get rid of the speed cut, pressed my NOS button and the 400 rwKw in my soarer helped it reach 290 kays an hour on South St, thank god for the green lights, didn't have to stop! Then the Diablo caught up to me as I couldn't accelerate any faster, not sure how quickly he went but must have been over 300 kays, all I saw was his license plate 1ABC123 hmmmm. My Toyota gave a Diablo a good run I reckon haha! At the end I did a nice big burnout outside a retirement village to celebrate my success and off I went home thorugh the suburbs, while drifting all over the place, I think I may have run over a cat or two haha, Awesome night!!!

Damn, I now got myself a VOI dammit! Never mind, price you pay for bragging made up stories and crap on the internet!

... now come on, this VOI thing just because of internet stories is just BS. Haha, even more BS if cops turn up at Sam's house with the only proof being an internet post he's written. Now I'm not saying that it isn't true, but if I were Sam and cops did hassle me over this I'd just say I posted it to impress my fellow club members. No offence to Sam, as in our eyes it did probably happen and you're not doing that, but you get my point as to the defense you can use when they do try to get you busted for it only based on an internet post.

Matthew, try putting slicks on the M6 and it would probably run 11s.
All this wank about the BMW driver not being good yada yada yada, come on. Sam is in a Soarer making 220-230hp max. BMW makes over 500hp. Weight difference of 100kg no issue. Game over.

Heh, if you factor in the weight of the driver being like most late model BMW drivers I've seen, plus another 120KG's

Yeah, also I guess as speed increases, traction becomes less of an issue in getting the power down anyway.

hahaha I never said they would rock up to his house. They probably wont take any notice of it, all I'm saying is you're incredibly nieve if you think police aren't capable of reading a forum and separating the BS from the truth.

You can think what you like about the VOI system, I'm just warning you, if you don't believe me thats fine :-)

Oh yeah, no doubt they would have VOI system of some sort, but I think they would attach that label to cars they have encountered personally, or fined for something excessive in the past or something... VOI solely because of internet posts on the other hand, I can write up the most believable story ever (not the one I wrote up there obviously)... I dunno, kind of sucks knowing we have taxpayer paid police officers sitting all day browsing car club internet forums looking for 'hoons' instead of chasing burglars and car thieves etc.

Well I doubt officers would even be on this forum. They're most likely over on nissansilvia.com or something. Have you read some of the crap on that website? I got so pissed off when reading through the forums that I decided to never go back there again.
There was a thread where idiots from all over NSW were bragging about how they got past the P-Plate restriction laws. If this VOI system really works, I hope those morons cop the massive fines and points for thinking they got around the system.

Some of us are not hoons, some of us are "hoons" and I am afraid that some of us really are hoons so I can understand police taking the occasional look. Some police own Soarers and at least one is or was a member here.

Justice gets done occasionally. Driving back from Sydney on Sunday, my son at the wheel, a P plated Nissan box raced up toward us but when we pulled in after a car we passed, to let him by, the Nissan dropped back. We then started passing another group of cars and the Nissan promptly hit the accelerator again to come up hard on our tail until we were past, then disappeared down the road aided by a bit of weaving on other cars. Somewhere about 50-100km later we passed him. He had stopped to talk to a policeman. Doubtless a social call.
