Hi Everyone, I have decided to obtain/buy a GPS for my UZZ31 GT-L. I want a GPS system that is integrated into/with my EMV. I know that it will need to be controlled remotely via Infra Red however, I am in a mess. Which system out their in the market place is the best? eg.VDO?? and where / who would be the best person to install it locally (North/West Suburbs in Melbourne).

I bought a second hand Philips Carin GPS system out of a Sonata and had it fitted to my Soarer. It works great via the EMV. The GPS unit is in the boot and the control unit hidden in the centre console box.

Mine is Blaupunkt and works well. In fact, the process of entering addresses is superior to my factory unit in the IS300. Getting this or one of the others second hand will be a lot cheaper. Mine has the unit under the passenger seat (attached to its underside) which is fine if you never push the seat all the way forward. Antenna is concealed under carpet and IR remote receiver replaces a blank switch plate under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. It has a separate speaker under the dash rather than that being through the stock speakers. Control is via a small remote with only seven buttons.

Ray I assume that you aren't using the screen and the input is just through an AV input? How much did it set you back? I have my display unit in my TT which has a connection for a GPS unit. I have not been able to find any anywhere to connect up to this.

I only paid $250 for the system from a Hyundai wrecker. Nam installed the unit to work through the EMV screen. Nam wired the unit in and I used an underdash switch (from the rear parking pole) to switch the system over.
