im wanting to majorly get a soarer however have a few queries on insurance and petrol use.

i know it depends on individual elements however how much do you guys with v8 soarers, and twin turbo soarers generally spend on petrol each week if you were to travel at least around 500kms

how about insurance?,

How old are you, do you have a rating, are you going to get a v8 or TT, I have a v8, spend a fairly large amount on fuel but i'm a lead foot a bit, at no rating and age 35 i was paying $1400 a year, but im down to about a rating 2 now and paying about $1100 ish. It's gonna go up now i had a bloody accident but what the hell.

I spend about $70 per week on petrol and do about 25,000km per year, this is in my current 3 litre. My V8 used to use about $90 per week for the same milage.

I think if you have to worry about petrol cost, you probably should get a Corolla.

Generally if you have to ask, the answer is no....

Especially if you don't pick up a decent condition Soarer, you'll be paying a fair bit on repair & maintenance during the first year or so.

mine just got tuned so i'm doing $85-$90 a tank and that gets me 500km's. I used to do 400km's a tank. I drive a TT with a cold air intake only.

i earn $400 a week. i spend $40 a week on insurance ($2200 a year) $30 to save for maintainance, $80 for petrol which i have been getting 600kms/tank. i drive fairly mild but will go full throttle a fair bit on a safe high speed road.

you cant beat a soarer on luxury and power. you will easily beat most commodores and falcons v8 or whatever, and keep up with most other performance cars as well too.

Have found that the soarer isnt as much of a crowd pleaser as my mates supra but i would prefer to be a passenger in the soarer. they are much nicer inside i reckon.

If you can do it buy a soarer. Best car i have owned by far. Be prepared to scarifice a bit though. Get it looked over extensively. Dont want to buy a pig. I bought a car with high kms (150k) but it was driven by a 45 year old italian woman that serviced it maintained it and cleaned it religiously.

Take it for a few test drives as well and make sure its for you. They arent really a purebreed sports car in my opinion just a luxo with a lot of balls.

Just if I may add to this, if anything goes wrong with the car, you'll really need the $$$ to fix it. With TTs, their most vulnerable parts are the stock turbos. If you are buying a TT, try to get one with rebuilt steel wheeled turbos already fitted, as that alone is a 2.5-4K fix job, depending on whether you get second hand turbos or newly rebuilt and whether you do the labour yourself or not. When mine blew, I was lucky to find $1700 second hand pair of steel wheeled turbos, and I'm fitting that myself, but it's rare to find them this cheap.

Oh, other that that, they are very reliable bulletproof cars if maintained properly, so get a car that's been looked after well in the past, look after it yourself, and it will look after you

I also bought a Hi KM soarer much like you Joel. Though mine was almost at 200 thou.
It is still the first year I have owned her and I have spent some coin fixing her up, but there is still a long way to go.

Car was sold to me with bald tyres basically so had to get new tyres, both engine mounts were broken (now replaced), needed a new cd deck and rear speakers. Interior needs to be fixed (passenger and driver side pockets, both door window trims, centre vent). She needs a new paint job also and needs much love and attention.

But I will agree with everyone here and make sure you get it looked over before buying (something I do regret) and you won't be disapointed!
Good Luck with it all

You'll find that 500KM is about the average for a full tank of petrol. So petrol alone would cost you about $80 or so per week if you were to stick to this schedule. Problem being a daily driver and all, you'll be constantly doing oil changes every one and a half months.

I did a mix of leadfoot city and leadfoot country driving and still got almost 750km out of a tank...

Unless of course youre talking about dem turbo soarers, 'orrible cars those :p

I can get 600+ out of a tank if I go to empty... but that isn't too good for the car I have been told so I fill up when its 1/4 full and I would have over 500km's

I got around the same as Samuel too.

I do around 560km a week and usually cost me around $90 to fill up and been using shell V-Power.

And I'm lucky to get close to 400km's. It's a late model with vvti, totally stock. This talk of
500 - 600k's is starting to me.

I drive my 91TT like i stole it and use anywhere between 10-15L per 100. For the performance, a v8 commo or falcon will use more fuel, and be a fair slice slower.

My best effort was 330km and she was bone dry. On the fwy there is no reason why I wouldn't get 750 out of a tank but I do a lot of traffic driving as well.

If you want the Soarer image without the high insurance costs (relatively speaking) and reasonable fuel economy look at the 3 litre, Khoa.
