Well.. lets assume this scenario. I lent the car to my cousin.. I then recieve a ticket. I asked him who was driving and he says.. well this person was. So I approach that person who admits it and fill out a stat dec.. Nothing wrong on my part I did my best.. Anyway someone has come forward and claimed the ticket so please dont tell me that its still worth accepting the 3 points?

Hmm, perhaps if he'd had a good lawyer he would have got off on that. No material proof and all...

But back to the other topic... I collected 10 demerit points in about a month while I was on my P's. Then drove like a granny (except for some a couple of choice roads) for the next 3 years!! Have since only been fined once for 1 point!!

How could you collect 10 demerit points on you P's? I thought a couple was enough to disqualify you. I have in all my time in Oz (15 years) collected 1 point. Just returned from Eu where the cops are not quite as rabid.

I dunno if I'm allowed to drive legally when im in victoria anymore, everytime I go there I rack up a trio. SA was very nice, even hooning just inside the SA border from NT, the oncoming cops would just wave as you zoomed past at crazy speeds. I remember cruising on 210km/h in the benz, and getting overtaken at lightening speed by some bloody HSV. Found out later its an APS twin turbo pushing over 600kw@treads. I reckon he may well have been cooking 300km/h....awesome! Oh, and they are putting a 130kmh limit on our roads up here, come January 1 2007. So we are all going on a High Speed cruise on the sunday, everyone encouraged to max out! It will be the last time you can legally travel at the limit of your car. I only ever got 247km/h on the road, so effectively Hayden still rules this car. Either way, the fuggin labour party is getting the arse next election up here. Claire Martin, get a spoon....

Sounds like its the same deal in Aus as it is in NZ... road policing has turned from making the roads safe into making the roads a steady stream of income for the government. Saw 4 cops and a mobile speed camera on the way to work this morning, two regular patrol cars, two planclothes - all four cars had pulled people over and were writing tickets. My drive to work is 14 km. Clearly they are targeting motorists making the most of the empty holiday roads. I bet not one of them was doing any more than 65 km/h and not one of them was placing anyone in danger, as the road was dry, visibility was good, road surface is good, and there are no pedestrians. Makes me sick. I just trundled along at 55 as I've better things to do with my money than hand it to the government.

Yeah Matthew, makes ya wonder what they would tax if everybody suddenly didn't break any road rules (like that'll ever happen!). They'd prolly up the tax take on petrol to compensate, which would prove absolutely that they're just revenue gathering..........which we already know! r-soles

will be interesting to see if NT's road toll from fatigue related accidents increases now. 161km/+ = Yeh its on... but noisey 160km/h = high stimulation and concentration 130km/h = less stimulation and concentration 110km/h = quite boring actually 100km/h = bah.. even my trucks i drive go that fast *** my speeds relate to driving in a Soarer, MY soarer and are only my opinions.

Seems to be some confusion here guys. You don't LOSE points, you occur them, ie you don't have a certain number to start out with for you to lose, you start out at zero, and once you get to that magic number, press the panic button. Also, 'not remebering' who was in control of you vehicle at the time is NOT a valid excuse, it even says so on fine itself. Well it does in SA anyways. Their line of thinking is that if you are too stupid to know who was driving your car at the time, you can pay it anyway, and cop the points associated with it.
