Hey guys and gals,
This is my first post as soon I plan to buy a Soarer GT LTD v8 uzz32 but all the major insurance companies aami, nrma, allianz,(shannons because it an everyday car) will not insure the car. I'm 29 years of age had a full license and comp insurance for over 10 years, never had a claim or traffic infringement of any description. The only company that will insure it is just car insurance for $2124.00 comprehensive.
Does this seem about right? Is there any other insurance companies anyone can recommend?

Simon.
I've had NRMA tell me that they won't insure a Soarer because it's an import, but they have an SC400 on their list. I didn't bother with them anyway. The major companies said that they didn't insure imports, and since all Soarers and SC400s are imported then I don't like your chances.
Have you tried Elders? There are a few threads on insurance, but haven't been many lately. Try a search of the forum and I'm sure you'll find a few alternatives to the ones you've tried.

The pollies do not live here. They prefer their own kind. Screeek go the claws across the blackboard.
Elders do insure the car. Their office is in Mawson behind Hair Affair. They know it as an SC400.
Shannons also insure them (they did mine before I switched) so I have no idea why you are having trouble with them. Have you visited their Fyshwick office?

Firstly, welcome Simon. I can't understand what's going on for you with Shannons. I'm insured with them and my car is an everyday car. I'd contact them again and talk with someone else.
Whoa!!! What the hell? Shop around, something is not right.
I'm with HBF, give them a call. As a guide my premium is 1050 which incudes no claim bonus protection, and top no claim bonus rating. Excess is 350 bucks or thereabouts and I'm 25. Location wise I live in a normal modern middle class suburb, no bad crowd or crime or anything like that in the area. Maybe they just don't like a UZZ32, ask them to quote a UZZ31 as well and see what the difference is...

My quote from Just Car Insurance is sitting next to me for $1448, and I'm a 19 year old driver. That's fully comprehensive with agreed value of $11,500. That's a UZZ31 LTD - it may be the rarity of 32s out there which is jacking the premiums up.

I've just gone through the process again, as my insurance is due in Feb for my 32.
Elders - NO soarers (was read the policy on the phone, although it seems like a few agents 'bend' the rules).
Shannons - Good, will do my car as a daily driver and offer a few extras now it's +15 years.
JustCars - OK, cheaper than Shannons, but possibly not as good as I think you have to use their repairer.
Unique Cars (have merged with Vigil) - VERY good price, seem to be offering the same 'features' as Shannons including choice of repairer, 1st rights on the wreck (I was told the wreck was free IF you were a member of a car club [including the ALSC, even though I explained it wasn't registered/incoporated/whatever] but I don't think I saw this in writing anywhere), free annual windscreen, nominated value, fleet option if you have lots of cars, happy with ALL mods (stated they would NOT insure my stock A4 turbo unless I did engine/performance mods). THEY WILL NOT INSURE IN INNER SYDNEY. I'm not sure of the limitations on age or driving record. I think it's nominated drivers ONLY (exceptions of valet/workshop/mechanical servicing staff). I think there is also a discount on multiple vehicles and they WILL deal with insurance brokers unlike Shannons.

I'm pretty sure Don got his insurance cheaper by calling it a SC400 as opposed to a Soarer...But that's in kiwiland where we don't need a mortgage to insure cars.
I insured mine as a Soarer as that's what it's registered as and I don't want to give the insurance company an easy out if I need to claim.

Try Dawes Underwriters. http://www.dawes.com.au/ My premium is $800. Insured for market value (whatever that means)and I live in Sydney's inner west. The guy there is a Soarer owner as well.
