Had my first try down the quarter with the Soarer yesterday (stock 91 TT with 13 psi boost), best run was 14.432 with a 2.145 60 ft. Unfortunately it was a stinking hot day of 34 degrees, so it was not ideal for turbo cars. Was getting wheelspin of the line even with the tyres at 26 psi. At least that has set a baseline, now I can start doing some serious mods.

Good stuff jeff!
Stock 91 TT with 13psi? Is this just boosted or you have an exaust fitted? This is a good time for a stock with just 13psi boosted!

Just has twin cannons, the rest stock. Running a manual boost controller, that's about as high as I can have it or it spikes on the highway in overdrive and hits the cutout.
I have run my Rex down the strip quite a few times, but I'm finding launches with the auto take a bit of getting used to. Good fun though, I want to try and get it down to 11's this year so I had better start spending some money.

You're not kidding!

Make sure you've got about 20k to spend.

Or just sell up and buy one like mine which already has most of the mods done to it to run an 11.

Paul, I realise it's going to cost a bit, lots cheaper and more reliable doing the Soarer than the Rex. From what others have done I should be able to get up around the 260-270 KW mark for under 10 grand, I will be doing most of the work myself so that will save a heap. Also know a good Toyota mechanic so that should help.

20K to get into the 11's, I reckon it can be done for half of that.

High flowed steel wheel twins, greddy ECU, dumps, FMIC, 440 injectors,Exhaust Cam Gear ( dialled in ), Shift Kit, Stall convertor 2800-3000rpm, 18psi-20psi and around 265-290rwkw. With a Torsen LSD.

1 inch lowered Springs all round, with soft shocks in the Front and Rear. Standard sway bars, 255/60/16 Mickey Thompson Et Streets.

There is a good solid performer. for around 10K in mods with some do it yourself work in there.

hehe, You rekon 11's are possible with that Daniel?
You're missing some USDM 2JZ cams which would compliment any twin setup very well :-) They'd have to be some good highflows to make 290rwkw without cams.

Id say 20psi minimum, should max the turbo's out!
Need about 115mph and a 'something chronic' 60ft time to rip consistent 11s and id say you'd have to be the driver; Mr Experience

Samuel - terminal speed was 95mph.
Daniel - that's about what I figured it at, except I am going to use a Unichip. $2-300 used. I have done my sums and lots of research, 270 KW and some weight reduction should easily get me into high 11's. Already got the Torsen LSD standard.

Have you guys checked the G'day section, there is a guy there running 12.9 on STOCK TURBOS!!!!

Mods he claims:

HKS 256 Cams
Exhaust
Stage 2 Quick Shift Kit
Front Mount Intercooler.

So with that you can get 12.9 seconds, then all you need to do is high-flow the turbos, custom the dump pipes, high-flow cat converters, etc.

For under 10K you should be able to get a Soarer down the strip in 12 seconds.

If you're planning on running 11's, don't forget about the gearbox. I spoke to Mike from MV Auto's recently and he has told me that the standard auto box, even with a shift kit, will not be able to handle more than 270rwkw daily.

Brian, My car has run 12.9's @ 107-109mph.

I have FMIC, Greddy FCD, Greddy EBC, Pod Filter, Stock Dumps with 3 inch exhaust( non high flow cat ), 15.5psi boost, Torsen LSD. I consistently run 1..9-2.0 60 footers on this setup on street tyres Dynoed at only 195rwkw at just under 15psi.

I now have a shift kit fitted and am looking for some 12.7's with new tyres. I went to the track with the shift kit, rained all day an night. So bad track. Traction issues off the line, Best 60 footer for the night was a 2.19 and 2.2's and a 2.3. Worst run for the night was 13.2 @ 108.7mph and best run on the 2.19 60 footer ( still wheelspun off the line, sideways into 2nd and spun into 3rd) was 13.002 @ 109mph.

SO i know it should run 12.7 or so.

All on Stock turbos. Also the Race weight of my car is 1625kg's. With spare wheel in the car and about 20 litres of fuel. I weigh 125kg's so a total weight of 1750kg's for my ride. So i dont strip anything out.

Going off my car, I would assume DUmps would add another 1-2 tenths. SO 12.5-12.6's. Stall convertor would push that down to 12.2-12.3's. Aftermarket ECU should shave some more time. Street Slicks would be needed now. and flat to very low 12's on stock turbos would be acheivable in my opinion.

High flow the turbos, add more boost ( say up to 19-20psi) and retune should result in a consistent high 11 second car.

1 inch lower than standard Springs all round. Soft shocks front and rear and Very small sway bars to allow the car to squat in the right manners for optimal launches. This would be hard to acheive on Hard TRack style or drift style suspension.

People always forget that even changing your suspension can take time off your 1/4 mile times.

Anyways, thats my opinion only.

And yeah Cihan i reckon its acheivable. My mate has an Old Capri that has run 10.4 @ 126mph. 5 litre winsdor with all the gear on it.

Brockas car was pushing 262rwkw and was runnin 13.2 with a 2.6 60 footer. With the right stally and some street slicks, that kinda power shoulda thrown him to flat 12's even an high 11 second timeslip.

Its only pushing 355rwhp ( thruogh a 5000rpm stally) to run those times and weighs around the 1400kg mark. He is about 140kg's himself.

Speaking of running 11's my gearbox looks like it is had it. It's slipping now (noticable) in 2nd when boost hits hard. It's lasted about 1 year, 14 WSID runs, undisclosed unoffical runs, and about 8000 hard ks. I'm surprised it got this far, essentually it's a standard gearbox just with a stallie, shift kit and tranny cooler.

Getting an MV autos rebuild job or going for manual Ben?

Daniel, looks about right mate. Not too sure if dumps would shave off a whole 2 tenths though :-)

Well Ben, a Blessing in disguise mate.

Cihan, Im only going off what others have said. They say about 20-25rwhp at 15-16psi from stock dumps to aftermarket ones. Plus fitment of a Nice 200 cell Metal cat instead of the one i have.

Of course thats if alls going to plan. Those are the figures and numbers i have come up with from experience.

Hi Brian, i have done a 12.778 now ,on 13psi boost, compared to 15psi when i did 12.9. timeslip enclosed. the record on stock turbos is shane hayter's 12.52sec,which is awesome. daniel clarke would be faster than me if he stripped weight out like i do. (seats and spare wheel)and he weighs 125kg!!! i will try to up the boost this week end to 15psi and hope for good weather.I can do better.

Just an update on my original post, just got back from the drags. Best run was 13.968 with a 2.039 60 foot 98.25 mph, I did five runs all up all within .15 secs of each other. The fastest was the first run at about 6pm, I had thought I might get quicker as the night got cooler but I think the heatsoak under the bonnet was slowing things down.
Mods since the original standard time of 14.432 are Hybrid FMIC and some porting and polishing of the air inlet and turbo outlet pipes. Very happy with the time, it was about what I expected. Next mod on the list is Lews dumps and a 3 inch to 2.5 exhaust with a very high flowing cat.

Well done Jeff! with Lews dumps and 3inch exaust you should see a time sheet of around the low 13's - a high 12 with a perfect launch.

not exactly true, with 265 falken street tyres and launching off idle i achieved consistent 12.9 second runs at wsid at over 111mph with an open diff.my 60 foot times held me back from going any better and a blow off valve that departed its mounting :-)

i had no traction launching on the stall converter.one day ill be back when the car is ready no diff atm so it will have to be closer to end of winter ...

I understand what you are saying but the figure I threw up was only a ballpark guess, not an exact time. One other thing to take into consideration is that not all soarer's run like yours. It comes down to the driver and the car.I myself should well be in the 12's with the mods I have(see profile) but I only managed a 13.2 before my steel wheels were instaled.I also am running nankang 265's and stalling it up to 2800-3000.Also running 13psi.So that proves every car is different.

Jeff wasnt disputing that i was just pointing out that it can be achieved off idle also.
