Here are some pics of our old (1995) Soarer sold last November. The new owner had it resprayed in a Toyota colour similar to Chev Corvette getting around the island.

Yes, Nathan, the pearl one in the background is still ours (it's our house in the pics). The new owner has visited a lot, he is very keen and enthusiastic, in fact he came straight from the signwriter who does pinstripes, to show us the new paint.

I like the old wheels and so does the new owner- he had them and the caps resprayed. They certainly look good when cleaned up- they look daggy when not cleaned up and are bugger to keep that way.

Yeah Mike, I have nothing against the factory wheels other than they should have been bigger for such a large car. Just poking fun 'cause I finally after a year and a half replaced mine mostly because as you say, I was sick of cleaning them with a bottle cleaner, and they do look when dirty, which ends up being most of the time. The new wheels are great, just a quick wipe and they are good as new.

I agree, one of the reasons the GS300 wheels are so good. They also look cool, both static and in motion (having been in my 4WD with my wife driving the Soarer).

I can't understand why Toyota didn't offer some more wheel options early on in the Soarer's life. Even the Supra had the choice of 16" or 17" from '94 on didn't they?

I was looking at a set of 17" IS200 wheels on trademe, but most of them seem to start their auctions at $400 (and from what I can tell, they usually don't sell) - then these Supra's came up for $100. Might only be 16" but I think I'm happier with the 8" width than the 7" on the IS200's.

I agree, Matthew. The '96 and on turbo wheels are nice and were what I was looking for, in fact. It wasn't sensible to go above 17" for us, there's no way I'm paying $400 per tyre for 18" and above and the smaller dia wheels suit us fine. 17" Supra wheels are very nice, too, but with so many Soarer guys wanting to fit bigger brakes (which I'm not into) they are fairly expensive.

Getting back to the car, it's interesting that no-one has commented on the silver stripe on the lip. It looks OK but is not what I'd have done. Also, he had the grille painted silver, yet has a gold pinstripe. I'd have stuck with gold for everything, and this would match the bronze pearl in the paint better.

It's a bit hard to tell from those pics as the grill is in shadow. I see the stripe on the lip too - it is a little odd, but I guess it adds some uniqueness.

Not sure if the 17's were an option on the lower spec models, but they were a necessity on the bigger braked models

I thought all Supras before 1997 had 16x8 / 16x9 rims, then they went to 17x8.5 / 17x9.5 for the later models.

But I thought the later models had the dimpled centre caps, and there's sets of 17's that have the older style caps??

Yeh, perhaps the centre caps are inter-changeable but they definitely changed from 16-17" rims.

They're also listed in the EPC with the prod dates 94-97 and 97- and the 16's are still listed after 97 also

Centre caps would be the same as my Soarer ones fit my Supra wheels fine - unfortunately the colour match is no good so I've stuck with the Supra ones.

Ryan- you should have called, my number is in the local book as well as in the govt section.

The red Porsche is a left hook (the "911" rego plate is a classic:-)). I'm not sure which silver Mercedes thingy you mean as there are several silver Mercs here, there's an A-class and a newly arrived C-350, from memory, which looks like it's brand new (not an import via Japan like most cars here). The latter really is a "limo", and real overkill for Norfolk.
