I know i could probally do a search on this but i want some feedback on what these are worth on todays market.. a mate has a old 88 model soarer with a 7mgte (i think thats write) it has a single turbo on it,big wheels, auto, white leather, body kit sunroof perfect body all the fruit really. i can pick it up pretty cheap ($1500 registered) it just has a spun big end bearing. any ideas on what it would be worth running? Is it worth fixing the 7mgte motor or putting a 1jz in it? do i have to make my own engine mounts or does it just bolt straight in?

yeah but you will need to pay alot of attention to the head gasket to produce 380rwkw.
My mate has a MZ20 going back 6 to 7 yrs ago when it was a 7M he blew 3 headgaskets and not producing no where near 380rwkw.
He ditched it and put in the 1JZ GTE with big turbo and is now making 600rwhp and still could make abit more with more boost etc. Although its not on the road as the interior needs to be finished and his lost his license for a while aswell.
Anyhow i agree Ben Daniel, ditch the 7M and put the 1JZ GTE in it or even 2JZ GTE if you have the $$$ and $1500 is a bargain.

Dont get me wrong Ben. I have read up on a few people who have fully built 7M's that are making huge power for example [BLCJET] which makes 532kw but have spent HUGE amounts of cash getting it up to that amount of power with the reliability to match but its simply just not worth it if your on a budget. $1500 to buy the car is a good deal but if you just dump in a 1JZ and be done with it then you will be better off than taking the risk with the 7M. Just ask Jerzy aka Stomps who has rebuilt his 7M 3 times but in the end just went with a 1JZ, it will always be the better option. But yeah, go with a 2JZ if you got the cash !!
Ben Socratous Goo Roo SA I am the fibreglass/kevlar/carbonfibre king!
i would go the 2j but the thing is its not the car of my dreams so i dont really want to spend all that money and time when im probally just going to sell it after i have a little fun. i think im gona get it home pull the 7m out of it and see what condition the motor is in for all i know all i might have to do is grind the crank stick some bearings in it, a full gasket kit, maybe hone it and some new rings and she'll be back on the road. ill keep you's posted on what i do.
ha ha dont tempt me justin i only got the cash to buy this thing cause i sold one of my other cars yesterday and that was cause i had too many cars. but i just cant say no to a good deal plus its a soarer so i have to get it lol. mmm 2j would be nice though.

If your intention is cheap fun then: Buy it Fix the spun bearing Bolt on a turbo kit (ebay, sss automotive, etc.) have fun Sell it.
I wouldn't piss any more money into it than that. a 1jz or 2jz conversion will cost you at least 8 grand by the time you add up all the extra stuff. Hardly worth the effort.
Cheap bang for buck would be to bolt in a 1uz and add a pair of T28 turbos. 1uz engines from a crown, etc pop up real cheap on ebay and around the place from time to time.

600rwhp hey?
Any more details as that sounds quite high. And it should be trapping over 135mph with that sort of power.
on topic: I love z20's. I used to have one. $1500 is cheap for someone to drop a 1jz in it. Sell off the 7m goodies. Use jza70 cut and you could have a good cheap car.

Roccos Performance in Sydney Built it for him. A few years ago.
So the engine is finished but the interior is not finished and exterior needs re spraying, he has lost his license for sometime so it wont be on the roads for a couple more years.
But im only going off what he has told me, he has custom 1000cc Injectors Big Turbo, I think its a EMS ECU Piggy Backed in from memory. All the usual supporting mods that you would expect.
From memory, They wrecked 3 JZZ30 Auto Gearboxs on the Dyno, pointed him in the direction of MV Auto but his gone another route i think. Not sure yet.
Its a lag monster from what his told me. Hence the big power.
