Ok i have a fair idea how this thread will end up so i am adding this at the start of it. I still enjoy driving my soarer a lot, i dont need to be thrashing it to enjoy the smooth ride and luxury options. My driving style isnt too granny either, ill hit full noise bout 10 times a tank at a guesstimate, i never touch the power button and very very rarely take o/d off.

To the guys that would normally critise a thread like this, choose to thrash your cars thats fine. I do not at present due to not wanting to have unnecessary repair bills, fines etc. PLEASE DONT LEAVE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ON THIS THREAD.

Guys, i have a 91 TT and due to recent events this has seen me tone down my driving dramatically. For the last 5-6 tanks i have been getting 700kms out of a full tank of BP ultimate just scrapping in by a litre or so, (dont worry i put more petrol in once it goes below 20L, i just work out what was in there from the bowser).
This driving is also about 40-50% town driving!

My TT is unmodified, only exhaust and pod and its not even a full exhaust. I want to know if i could achieve 800kms maybe even more by putting in a Mines ECU, SAFC, FCD or any other tuning device without losing power. Just been thinking about it because there has been a lot of gas related threads lately.

Has anyone cracked 800kms?

get a stock 6 like mine and you can do 850 easy but that is with out giving it any go + 40% highway K's. Its funny how sometimes a tank only last about 500 lol

Quite likely possible but improbable, personally I wouldn't want to risk the long walk.

And most of the flak from these threads comes not from the whole "If you want good mileage, don't buy a Soarer" viewpoint but that there's a new thread every week about economy

I disagree with a lot of people bagging soarer for fuel consumption.
There are many so call family sedans less then 5 years old (not 15) with similar if not worse thirst for fuel.
Not to mention slower, less reliable and less comfortable.

Joel, thats pretty good mileige your getting.
You might get a bit more Ks with a SAFC, but I think you will have to nerse the car all day every day to get over 800ks.

I got 810ks when I went for the canberra cruise last year, but thats obviously all freeway driving.

So getting 700+ with alot of town driving is excelent IMO...

yea, a thing i wouldnt mind accomplishing is getting 800kms outta a tank or 10L/100kms because i am being to grow tired of everyone assuming my car is bad on fuel (family and friends i mean)
I wonder if anyone has ever gotten below 10L/100?? Like 8-9?

SAFC is only good for tuning full throttle settings. It might give you 10-15% better economy at full throttle depending on how you tune it. If you try to tune it at part throttle settings then the standard ECU will eventually tune it out. How often do you spend at full throttle when trying to achieve 800kms from a tank?

A Mines ECU might give you better economy as the ignition should be slightly advanced compared to standard.

My last tank lasted me about 450kms... mostly city bumper-to-bumper and pissed-off-in-city driving. Otherwise she's not too bad on fuel (Sydney to Central Coast and back with one top-up).

I got 900km from 1 tank, that was pretty much 95% highway driving @ 110km/hr with the occasional overtaking. Was a trip from Perth to Kalgoorlie.
This was done in my old TT with a pod and with BP ultimate.

700kms out a full tank is amazing, i struggle to get 450 - 500kms but mine is abit modified.

This week though ive been driving about 90% like a grandma and so far i have 39ltrs at 300kms, Thats the best ive seen it in ages. On BP Ultimate.

At one stage, I did get less than 10/100km's and I still to this day find it very hard to believe.

It was when I had first bought my car, hadn't changed anything, tyre pressures, alignment etc. the very first day when I went to go see my girlfriend, straight HW driving, I got 4.2L on a 54Km trip.

Now by my calculations, that figures to be 7.778L/100km's

It happened twice, once on the way up and the other on the way back that same day, after that I changed the alignment, tyre pressure, engine mounts, sparks, oil, air filter, and regardless of what I do now, I still can't get that same kind of figures, I always get a max of 10.5-12L/100km's and it shyts me because I did it once and I surely can do it again.

And I totally agree with this...hence the reason why I will refuse to drive an AU/BA Fairlane or a VT/VX Statesman, or any other car for that matter.

Give me a UZZ32 though.....I will be more than happy

I never knew Soarers can go over 600km per tank.

I only ever get 550 tops. My pb is 600 odd km and that was with about 10% highway driving. And I hardly ever hit boost.

But then again I do live inside the city and spend about 40mins a day warming up and cooling down.

I always get over 500km from a full tank, thats just to and from work everyday. Also a mixes of city and freeway driving.

I do around 100km a day just for work, so i have to fill the Soarer up every week!!

I got a 91 TT auto, has a 3" cat-back exhaust and Pod filter, also has Atmo-BOV as well.

Wehn I first got the car, I reset the ECU, and then a week later proceeded to drive from Sydney to Cobar. I still had 15 litres reported in the tank, but considering I was driving around in the outback, I didn't want to risk heading to Bourke on only 15 litres of fuel, so I filled up, and it WAS 15 litres roughly of fuel.

Having said that, it was 690kms, and roughly averaging 8.5l/100kms, therefore I should have almost gotten another 200kms, so 890kms from a tank.

Michael, want to email a blank version of that spreadsheet around, I would love to play with my fuel figures and see exactly what it does fuel wise.

I used to have a primative version of a spreadsheet like that, which worked out average distance, and rough litres/100kms, but I had since given up on that when I owned the 1.8 litre 180sx which was getting no better than 13.6litres/100kms on highway.

This is the actual file (Excel 2007)

I can redo it in Excel 2000 or Open Office if needed.
