Well had a bit of an accident this morning. Car is not looking very well. Thankfully I didn't get rear-ended when this happened.

Here's the story:

On the way this morning, have a good ol' listen to a favorite track in the car. Plodding along at a decent pace of around 70-80 km/h in the right lane of the freeway. Decided let's move to the left lane while it's flowing so smoothly. Check my blind spot and all clear, turn back and BANG into the back of a Toyota Hiace van. Didn't even realise he was braking until too late.

So here are the pics. What do you reckon, fixable???

It doesn't look like any structural damage, but you can't buy any prangs for cheap these days.

Suggest check your passengers headlight very closely and hope that it is a bit damaged, possibly the mounting lugs.

A new headlight will really contrast against the ahh.. discretionary luminance factor of the other one.

In NZ it'd be an instant write off. With higher values in Aus they may opt to fix it.

And yeah, for gods sake take to that headlight with some abrasive polish!

Insurance has been called and the car has been to get quoted to see what they are going to do with it. It could be fixed or it could just not be worth it and I'll get a cheque. The repairer's reckon that given the cost of all the parts (plus whatever else could be wrong in the engine bay) may be a write-off.

I'll only find out next week at this stage. Just in case it is a write-off, have to look at what else I might get myself. Possibly another Soarer (late model), or move to something like a Chaser or Aristo (i.e. a later year).

Damn that's harsh Will and sorry to hear. Although it's small consolation, at least no one was injured...

If you end up looking for a new car, you can't go past any engine starting with 2JZ! All the best anyway mate.

Just touch up the paint chips and it will buff right out

But being serious thank god no one was badly injured, who cares about the car, as long as you and everyone else are in good health...

When I hit I heard the thud and didn't feel anything. It was a solid hit.

The guy did say that he got a bit of whiplash and personally myself I am going to see the doctor this afternoon just to get a check up. Neck feels a little sore but that's really about it. Thankfully no one was hurt, and also thankfully no one rear-ended me!

Testament to the car though, the only thing that isn't working on the thing is the right indicator, front headlight. Everything else works, and there are no leaks so missed some vital car systems.

Thanks for the comments all of you!!

Found that the bonnet is fused now. It can't be opened, the catch is released. It is jammed in there tight. Meaning to open it, would need nice big crow bar!!

But I'll leave it alone until insurance says what needs to come out if it gets written off.

Nope, painted just the once except front bar twice because of stone chips NOT because of a humungous front end collision like the Will meister!....

Will, see if you can hang on to it for a bit. You might be able to get some skateboard action in down the front bonnet...(You could skate over that right hand light by accident at the same time)....

I believe that was you wasn't it Gregg......

Anyway cheers for that. I'll only know what will happen to the car probably by next week. Doubt they'll get back to me this week. Regardless it's going to take a while. Had to get a hire car to get me around while the paper work is happening. Some many forms to fill out, insurance, police report, etc. etc. etc.

Yep more than likely Soarer #4 on it's way, unless #3 is fixed.

Dude, I'm damn certain it wasn't me that has rear ended you on Saturday nights....

I think it's time you admitted that this isn't the first time you've "come up the back of some bloke"......

The JB Camira sounds like a plan...or what about a Datsun 120y? You'll get excellent fuel economy...

No Gregg!! You got rear-ended by............... this topic is getting sick!!

I know I've never been there before, can't say the same bout some people though. Anyway, this is completely dismissive of this topic.

Fuel economy on a datsun 120y. Geeees that would answer all my fuel concerns. Although don't know about the rust or safety to be honest.

Looks like nothing a good sledge hammer couldn't fix. I hope it all works out for you. You'll still be without a nice car for awhile no matter what, that's the hidden cost.
