Okay before I start this thread, just want to make sure that this thread is not going to turn into a V8 vs TT conversation. I have owned both and types (and yes I know there are na 6's, but they are outside my budget, so I will not be getting one).
I have a tough decision to make. Ultimately the choice is going to come down to which one I prefer when I take them for a test drive.
Insurance has deemed it a write-off and I now have to buy another car, as I will be getting the check next week sometime. I have looked at 2 cars today (and I have to admit it is getting hard to find any Soarers in Perth these days). They are almost at the point of being as rare as hens teeth. I haen't had a chance to drive them yet, so that will be a decision. Most of the cars that I have seen for sale have been either turbos or Limiteds generally in the darker colors FSG and black.
The 2 I have looked at so far are:
(i) UZZ30 in the Champagne duco with beige interior
(ii) JZZ30 in the Silver duco with the teal interior.
Both cars are identical in features, so not a feature based thing. More the engines.
From first (mind it quick) impression both bodies are straight and have got a great finish. The look really nice. I managed to see the silver one with the sunlight and it was simply hot to look at. The gold one was under grey clouds but still looked the goods.
The V8 has a bleeding air-con dash and from what a friend has advised so far, the car appears to have had a cold induction pipe put through it to the airbox (possibly a BFI mock-up). I haven't had a chance to look at the engine bay myself, but from what he has advised so far it is clean. The power steering pump didn't appear to have any leaks, and neither was there any powder on the alternator. The radiator however has brand new coolant in it, and would appear that it has recently been repaired. The top tank also has no pink spots on it either, so assume that it's okay.
The turbo one of what I saw is good as well. No bleeding air-con but I did notice that in the engine bay, the inlet pipe (I think that's the one on the passenger side coming from the plenum and then dropping down at the front) has been changed and is polished. It has a BOV that has also been attached to this pipe.
I am thinking that the silver one might have been trashed a little more given this configuration, whereas wouldn't have any idea about the gold V8. Thing is I have had a gold V8 (UZZ30) before so don't know if I should go back down this road or not.

I have also seen an Aristo that has been advertised for $12,990. This is the non-turbo 2JZ-GE which looks nice from the pictures I have seen. Is that too cheap for an Aristo?

In fantasy land, all 3 .
But looking at the choices
Aristo is a 4 door and I don't really need a 4 door now - probably a later life purchase.
JZZ30 - problem if the turbos go, that's $3000 out of the pocket (turbos + labour as I wouldn't have time to do it myself and is my daily driver).
UZZ30 - reliable and no nasty suprises (besides the alternator being destroyed by the power steering pump should it break).
V8 UZZ31 - would love it, but too many things that can go wrong. Airbags $3000 to do all four (I know you can get 2nd hand ones, but who knows how long they'll last) - plus any EMV issues (or upgrades to English for example).
V8 UZZ32 - possible EMV issues and rebuilding the hydraulics).
JZZ31 - outside of my budget (which I refuse to move from).
So realistically the UZZ30 at the moment, as it would be the least of my dramas. Besides the air-con bleed can be fixed (not a biggy, but would be able to discount the V8 further). Also the gold 30 I am looking at has the ivory interior that I just want so bad.

Whats wrong with buying a car off these forums and support other members???
I presume you dont want to buy interstate due to costing at least 1K to ship it over to WA.
Buy from Sydney and drive it back, there is no excuse cause Blaine drove from WA to Canberra for Neils workshop opening, then drove all the way back last year....
just a option, and he have soarers in Sydney by the truck load....

Steven I support the members on the forum. My situation however doesn't really allow for it. I only have 1 car, which has now been written off and do not have any form of transport. I would then have to take leave from work, find a car over east that suits my needs, ship it back to Perth, run it over the pits (and as long as it is stock then it would pass). I have a hire car now, basically until next Thursday and my cheque comes in the mail a week later.
Although I don't want to rush my purchase, I have to choose the easiest but well thought of path to get my own car back on the road again.

I've got a couple of Soarers that I am still yet to have a look at, but these 2 seem to be in really good nick. I have paid for my hire car until next Thursday, so I should hopefully be able to find something by then.

Mike it's more a case of been there done that regarding the gold one. Although I admit it does look sweet. Will be taking it for a drive tomorrow morning. This is the pic of my very first Soarer that I got (which was a Gold UZZ30) and was modified. Now you also see my dilemma. I regretted selling the original car, do I dare go back in time in essence?

Alen if you are talking about the gold one, I sold that car probably about 3-4 years ago. That was a long time ago. I have had 3 cars since then. Back then I had sold it for roughly 17K or thereabouts, basically swapped to get a GT-TL. I have seen it a couple of times being driven around but don't know what else happened to it, or what has been done to it. It still looks the same.
Daniel recently saw it too and it was owned by some guy who was selling it. It still looked the same, just a couple of changes to the interior from what he saw.

Well had a look at a couple of cars over the weekend and I have put a deposit down on a new Soarer. I wasn't going to spend over my budget, but when I saw this car I said fcuk it why not. So I have gone $2000 over budget.
I should hopefully get it by the end of the week, provided insurance doesn't mess around with my cheque. It is a 95 GT-T (well the badge says GT-T). It has all the stuff my last car had (except the LSD) plus a few extras.
The car is GT-TL spec with everything on almost all options checked. Sunroof, full electrics, TEMS, ABS and that lovely little scroll button. Additionally the car has got TEIN rears but coil fronts. It has 18" brand new rims and tyres and is unbelievably clean. The interior is just shmicko!!!!!
Does anyone know if there was a change to the turbos in the 95's? The turbos just look brand new. I will post pics when I get the car, but you can see the turbos quite easily. Although this may be because the heat shield has been removed? So excited can't wait.

Yeah that was about 3 months ago. And that car still had "Daniel's rims"

I did take some pictures with the mobile camera and will post them up tonight as I need to download them off the phone. I just got news from my insurance that my claim has been processed and done, which means that they are sending out the cheque today and get it when I get it. So end of this week is looking good to have the deal finalised with the seller and for me to be driving around in my "newer" Soarer.
Daniel you do know that I started that trend with "Will's Rims" well before you did..... }

Buying from a dealer. The car has done about 119200km's. Checked the interior and it is clean!!! Very well looked after. When I opened the bonnet when checking the car, found that it did have an aftermarket pod on it, which of course does have the compulsory certificate for it. However this will be changed back to a stock box with a BFI.
