Hi guys,

So i woke up, went driving. Got pulled over.

1. Illegal BoV - vents into atmosphere $113, no demerits

2. P plate on back window had fallen off, $113, 3 demerets

3. Driving a high powered car on my P plates over power: weight ratio: $176, no demerets.

So i cant legally drive my car any more. Till November when im off my P's.
Well i guess ill save petrol now right?

Goodwork cops, i rarely drag, im one of the safe P plate drivers. I have lost respect for their kind.

Just a little rant.

Yeh this guy pulls over ANY jap car he sees.

LUCKY THO about 60 meters away i made the blow of valve go twsshhhh but they didnt hear.

Basically no reason, they just did on spot check for mods ect. First time ive ever been pulled in almost 2 years of driving, 6 months ive had my soarer.

Pettett is renownd for his kinaries ect, but i was nice to him, he was nice back charged me on 2 of 3 infringments, let me off on a warning on the third.

Sigh now to remove the BoV, and legally i cant drive my car. but well how else am i meant to get to work? public transport, i think ill drive

Think thats a little unfair mate generalising all cops and saying you have no respect.

Yes this guy is a hard arse but you did get done for infringements that were all easily avoidable.

1. Anyone with a turbo car in Victoria knows atmo venting BOV are illegal - there one of the most easiest defects you cant complain on that one.
2. P Plate falling off - it may sound harsh but how does he know you didnt deliberatley take it down? Once again a common infringement.
3. Driving a soarer on your P's is the risk you take. Its over the limit, you choose to drive it no one made you drive that car so you gotta cop that fine on the chin.

If he pinged you for having no water in the windscreen washer bottle or too many handbrake clicks then yes thats harsh. However all your fines were common infringements easily avoidable on your behalf, no need to whinge about them...thats what corrolla's are for if you dont want cop attention

Kyle i dont think its unfair at all. Why? because this guy is one of a kind, apparently something to do with his son and a crash, now hes after all P plate jap car drivers . Look it up Allan Pettett on Yahoo.

Cops dont distinguish good P platers from Muzza VL p platers. They see all P platers as dangers with high performance vehicles and care little.

I think you will find Any BoV that Vents to atmosphere is illegal in any state. They are designed as a Race product and for race or off road use, Just like a PoD filter is.

James, my rego only says 1.3 tonne :s so obviously its incorrect the rego sticker right?

If i have my car weighed and dyno'ed and it proves to be heavier then 1.56tonne and around stock 206kw @ flywheel, can i have this charge removed?

I doubt that. You could have filled it with Stereo or lead. I think the power-to-weight is according to the produced car, not according to actual weight.

It also would mean that if you were fat enough you could drive any car on your P's

Thats intersting James i heard of a case where someone challanged the rule and the court would only accept the figures as released by the manafacturer and given to DOTARS. It would not accept weigh bridge certificates or dyno graphs. Having said that i know of a guy driving a car whose factory specs were under the power-weight ratio but the cop found his latest dyno graph on the backseat and so fined him for being over the limit...it seems to just be up up to the discretion of each cop whether your cars over the limit or not.

Chris, where were you pulled over and what time? And what car was he in? Unmarked white XR8?

You will probably get an EPA notice in the mail, which will mean a compulsory full emissions / noise test in McLeod. :-(

Good luck with it.

I just put a '94 3-litre over the weigh bridge here and I got a tare of 1.52, no driver in it.... strange stuff these weights, but they make a lot of difference to the cost of rego...

If your rego sticker says your car is 1.3 tonne, you will be paying less for your rego.

If you fire off a complaint about it, and prove your car weighs more (say 1.64 tonne), then you will find your car gets moved into the next weight bracket, and becomes slightly more expensive to register.

Power to weight ratio in Victoria is 120Kw per tonne, going from power at the flywheel.

I think even at 1.6 tonne, the Soarer is still over the limit, but only just.

Also, if they force you to Dyno the car for a power figure, you will find that Soarers are under-rated with their 'stated power' and you will get screwed over again.

Ben is right *cough* Nazi state *cough*.

It's actually 125Kw per tonne (it used to be 127Kw per tonne couple of years ago ) and that is just 5Kw over the power to weight ratio for the soarers....

Hey brian,

Yeh i would have my car dynoed and weighed but i know its above the stock 206 at the flywheel (exhaust, air intake) so id be looking at maybe an extra 20-30 @ the fly or so.

it doesnt matter. im off my P's in november. Only thing im scared of is after July the penalty goes up for overpowered cars for P platers. So i think ill be carless for a few months. save me lots of money on petrol i guess.

yeh currently the soarer i believe is 132 kw/tonne :-( 7 kilowats wow! thats nothing considering my car has done 140,000km so powerloss through wear would obviouslly be present.

The ACT rego is based on tare weight,....... there doesn't seen to be any subtext about mods on the car if you get pulled over..... at least it hasn't happened to me as yet... oh dear, perhaps I should'nt test fate
