How is having a lower powered car actually going to prevent you from having an accident?? Simple it will not
I find it pretty hard to dangerously hang the arse out going round corners in a 50kW 4 cylinder. However I can get myself into all kinds of sh!t very easily with an extra hundred or two by just using a little extra right foot. I'm also much less likely to engage in street racing with a Charade, and even if I did, sh!t happens a lot slower with lower acceleration.

kids wont street race in these cars! thats the point!!
Bang on the money! ;) You also have the issue of high power cars accellerating quicker which is where the most of us will have run in to "fun times" in our Soarers! ;D

Obviously not trying hard enough, I went through countless sets of tyres and a fair number of diff's in my little 4 cylinder (85 2 litre corona). But I kept it mainly out of town, so the police focus'd there attention on D/h commodore drivers that paraded the main street on a regular basis.

Kids will street race in anything, not everyone goes out to win, some do it for and giggles.
I do agree that there has to be a line somewhere, but if all p plater's were restricted back to 4cylinder buzz boxes, I think that would be going overboard.

Well then you're just a problem hoon I guess. My point is most will be discouraged from the occasional stunt if the stunt has fairly crap results. Also if they are racing or pulling dumb stuff, less power = less chance of binning it.
The argument is that more powerful cars in the hands of inexperienced drivers = more accidents. I think that's basically a gimme for the government. There are other places I don't agree with their policies, but on this one I do. This is also why new riders aren't allowed to jump straight onto an R1. That probably saved me the use of my arms and legs.

New riders aren't allowed to jump straight onto an R1 yet you car ride a CBR250 that will do zero to 100 in about 4.5secs and go around corners faster than a R1.
There has been quite a few times I have avoided accidents with the use of right foot where as if I was driving a low powered vehicle I wouldn't have been about to safely avoid dangerous situations. Note most situations are avoid by braking but some the only option was to use the accellerator.

Yeah well gee what can I say you've convinced me. It is absolutely the safest thing for all 19 year olds to have the most powerful cars. And people like Schumacher should "graduate" to driving the highly dangerous Suzuki Swift.
I had an FZR250 when I started. If I had started on a 600 or a litre bike, I'd be dead right now. Not sure how you figure a CBR250 with its 2 dollar 1990 tech suspension can go round a corner faster than an R1 either.
