I have comprehensive insurance with just cars they sound like they will cover it for around $8500 after i pay 1300 excess. I know this is not too bad better than nothing but i had only last night agreed to sell the car for $12000 grand so yeah i am pretty upset. not too mention i did love the car and its a very sad farewell. The car was sitting in exactly 4ft 1inch of water we could measure it by looking @ the marks on the workshop wall and the paint job. I will post i for sale aswell but i will be selling the konig unknowns 18inch i had on the car. if anyone is interested. Finally just wanted to say thanks to everyone one on this forum. You guys really are here out of a passion for the soarer and helping others. I have gained so many hints and tips from the users of this forum THANK YOU EVERYONE.

Ouch that sucks,
Where was it parked ? I live near the river in Brissy and if i knew any floods were coming my Soarer would be niiiice and high. *as well as most of my possesions.
So you wont get to wreck the car or pull any bits off (other than the rims) before insurance gets their grubby hands on it ?
Got any daylight pics ?

very sorry to hear about the car.
Perhaps if you wreck it you could get more back for yourself. Minus the electricals which are obviously destroyed theres a lot of other things you could sell including the interior exterior panels and non electrical parts.
whether or not this is worth doing depends on how much your insurance company will compensate you if you keep the car...

Yeah when i saw it i assumed that most things wouldnt be able to be saved. I dont know enough about the cars to pull the thing a part and figure out what is still good or not. Anything electrical is most certainly gone. Interior wrecked, The boot has still roughly around 5 litres of water sitting in it. Im pretty sure all the parts in the engine bay would not only be flooded but have mud and crap all the way through. Also Neill it has been sitting there since friday. I had it at an auto electrics having the solenoid fixed in the door and i was only told buy the guy this morning that there was a problem. To respond to some other comments if you werent in newcastle or near bye you couldnt believe how quickly things got messy. Within 1 hour without much warning the main streets of newcastle were 6ft deep in water. The link that brian put up tells the story pretty well.

Jay,
I know it's a time to ask, but I did notice int he pics that you got the magical cup holder next to the radio, can I place first dibs on that if you end up wrecking the car....
BTW, there are much worse pictures which I will put up in regards to floods last weekend, I just need to seek permission from the Divisional controller of SES Northern Division before displaying them publicly, as they are SES copyright, and I dont want to upset anyone.
Some parts of Wyong, Gosford, and Newcastle went from wet roads to 4ft under within 40 minutes, that 1 foot deep every 10 minutes, and people still tried to drive through it.
The Old Pacific highway gave way and killed 5 people when their car fell with the road (I drove over the same bit less than 60 minutes before in my Soarer with full tank of fuel, and lots of work gear inside the car, it could have easily been me), and many cars where washed around like they where rubber duckies in a bath tub, I tell you it was not a pretty site at all, and I have been told to expect similar amounts of rain this coming weekend, so all I can think of is bracing for more SES work, and hoping people are safe.
This wasn't my car, but it still breaks my heart to see such a car that has obviously been cared for, and that someone deeply loves get destroyed in such a way.
Jay, hopefully we see you around here some more, and maybe even in another Soarer (rembmer, it's not just the cars people drive that make up a club, it's the members and their spirits as well).

Listen guys i have had a lot of private messages from people asking if there is any chance of me salvaging different parts for them. I have received all these requests and i will look into all of them. It is difficult for me to gain access to the car because its sitting at a mechanics and it cant be moved until insurance accessors look at both my car and the workshop it sits in. My car may be covered both by my insurance and the businesses. Also my insurance company are wanting to take the car away to there people in sydney. So bottom line it will be very hard at this point in time to get anything out of it. If they dont come through with the goods then it will be my pleasure to start spreading the love of what ever is still in tact. Just a final note aswell. I dont wont to sound like the world has ended because i have lost my car. Brian i was sick in the stomach when i saw the footage of the accident at sommersby. I ride my motorbike along that stretch of road. Also just all the other stories i have heard in the last week there are a hell of a lot of people in much worse situations than myself.

Once the insurance company pays you out it technically becomes there car so you would therefore have to buy back the salvage from them. Total pain in the butt. But if anyone here is interested you could contact his insurance company yourself and ask to buy it.

Sorry to hear about that Jay I hope insurance pays up and you are back on the road shortly. There will always be another soarer out there with your name on it who knows this might be a blessing in disguise!
