Seeing as we lost the last few weeks of posts and I didn't want to butt in on Daniel's thread again, I thought I would start a new thread where everyone can post their times, experiences, ways to make a Soarer go faster, handy hints etc. Generally everything and anything related to drag racing.

So much to write...people say its easy but there's a lot to it.

For beginners a few handy hints:

Don't do massive smoky burnouts on street tyres. A quick spin to clean off dirt is all that is needed.

Come into stage VERY slowly, don't just rush in. Shallow staging (where you barely bring on the bottom staging light) will get you quicker times.

Power OFF, overdrive OFF seems to be best for stock-ish combinations.

Remove any weight possible. Spare tyre and tools in the back at least. Also CDs and mats are easy to take out and provide a bit of a weight saving.

I suppose because I started this off, I had better post my best time and thoughts.
Best to date is 12.746, 1.729 60ft @ 106.6 mph.
I improved by .5 sec by just learning how to stall it up properly (about 3400rpm) and to do a good burnout without any other mods. My son advised to try and continue right through the start line with the burnout (only allowable with drag radials or slicks) and then come back along the line you have made. Without a doubt it worked as I knocked .3 of a sec off my previous best 60 ft.
Just fitted HkS cam gears yesterday, exhaust retarded to 6 degrees, I have noticed a big difference in mid to high power. The only downside is the flames out the exhaust when I back off quickly. Looks cool though.

Best to date of 11.423 @ 118.94 with a 1.587 60ft on street tyres (MT ET's). Looking to go a 10.x soon with some slight weight reduction, more power and a shot of GAS.

Have gone a best of 12.18 @ 113.07mph with a 1.700 60 footer.

Since then i have upped the boost and fitted an exhaust cam gear at 6 deg retarded and also a Blitz Access Ecu so no more Speed cut!!!!

Should run 12.0's and hopefully crack the magic 11.9something with some track time up my sleeve:-)

My best time is a 16.945 @ 83.76 with a 2.505 60ft. If I were at sea level maybe I would have a more decent time (minus .5-1 second). I usually rev up to 3-4k rpm, and "slip" the clutch the best I can with a 130k mile old stocker.

True Steven. But have a look on the net about roll out and the way the staging beams work. By shallow staging it is effectively the smallest of rolling starts and can be worth different amounts of time, depending on the roll out of the car. This is all fact, no two ways about it.

BAH - thats nothing. Try a 15.4 with wheelspin through all 4 gears, and the ass-end waggling away up the quarter :-)

My best is a 13.2, 2.6sec 60' time, 110.1mph trap speed. My excuse is I'm manual, and that was with a brass-button single plate clutch, and was run on crappy hard old 255/40 street tyres.

Have to see whether my new clutch (quad plate) and box (R154) setup is a bit more launchable.

Since replacing the stuffed factory front struts with Pedders comfort gas ones, I've started suffering axle tramp. Any tips on reducing this?
Stuff I am thinking of trying:
Put factory front springs back in
Put harder shocks in the rear (or coilovers?)
Put in urethane control arm bushes/stiffen up the rear end

I want this thing to hook up nicely :-)

Shane's suspension guys spent quite a bit of time with him from what i understand, and he has got good improvements. Don't know if he wants to share all that development of his tho. However, his 9 sec car probably doesn't feel threatened by your car, cool tho it is. perhaps park it by his car overnight, and hope they breed! :-)

From my experience, stiffening up the rear too much leads to too much wheelspin on launches, you're kind of better off leaving it a bit softer and letting it squat.

Yeah, thats my take on it. Having softer suspension in the rear will allow the suspension to absorb the weight transfer as you accelerate forward, maintaining maximum tyre traction by shifting the weight of the car towards the rear, placing greater down force on the wheels.

Rock hard suspension at the rear end will just result in wheelspin, as there's no transfer of weight over the back wheels, so they just spin up.

Braden, your new front shocks may be too stiff or too "short", and not allowing the front end to be pulled up, essentially also preventing the weight transfer over the back wheels to happen?? Factory front springs would be my suggestion.
