Cleaned the fuel sender (91 V8) on the weekend, many thanks to Peter. It was FILTHY, no wonder the fuel readings were random. Now its very accurate- even reads the same the next morning when I start! Thought I would share a couple of pics of how dirty the sender actually was.

That thing looks like the coffee milk frother at Mascot Krispy Kremes, they have never once cleaned it yet!!!!
Damn, that would upset the sender and confuse it slightly.
Strangely, mine was almost clean as a whistle when I pulled it out for a clean, yet was reading empty, even when freshly filled.
Cleaned it, and it was fine for 2 weeks, then went bonkers again, so I removed it, and cleaned it again.
I did, however, notice on my car there was chemically treated paintwork (it looked like acetone) which was spilt down the side of the car, looked almost like the fuel tank had overfilled with acetone, and the spilt fuel was blown down side of the car, so after 3 tanks, I cleaned it, then 3 more full tanks later, I have cleaned the sender again, and in another 1 tank (done 2 already) I will clean it a 3rd time.
It's good, cleaning the fuel sender only takes me 20 minutes now, so practice makes the process very quick!!!

Cool, my fuel readings have started to vary by as much as 10L on flat roads in the past 2 weeks! So who is volunteering to do the job on my car at the next fix it day while I get covered in grease playing with peoples engines and gearboxes again?
