I'm trying to get under my soarer for the first time. I'm starting at the front. Where should I place my floor jack and where should the jack stands go?

I'm not a complete goon I just would like to know the proper way.

Dale, there's an indent in the "Sill" about 12" behind the front wheel, and approx 12" in front of the rear wheel where the factory jack goes.

IF you're talking garage type floor-jack, then place under the front cross-member.............but be careful, it's quite easy to accidentaly jack em up under the oil-pan, which is a no no!

For the rear.......jack em straight under the diff centre, and place your axle stands on the chassis rails on either side of the diff.

Do yourself a huge favour and invest in some ramps, they are available quite cheaply from autopro and the like...ive jacked mine heaps of times and now the drivers side door clicks a bit when opening as result.

WHY?!?! Why does it do this?? Does it bend the hinge or something??

the chassis will bend / twist when you jack from one corner so will put stress on those parts. if you jack up a r33 or something sometimes you cannot open the door.

Shouldn't be opening doors with the car jacked up ;)

yeah i second that Cihan (in hindsight, although the click has now corrected itself), anyways my mate was telling me about particular Jag xj6 models where it is not unknown for the windscreen to crack when the car is jacked. So much for british engineering.

Keh? My car couldn't make it up ramps at stock height and without the black lip extension! Now it is 2.5" lower and has a lip there definately is no way it is going up ramps. Doesn't matter though, I have access to a hoist :-)

If I had to use ramps they'd need to be 15' long. My floor jack just fits under. So If I jack both sides and place stands under the cross member do I still run the risk of chassis issues?

If you jack both sides you'll be sweet. Just chock the rear wheels with bricks so you dont have 1500+kgs landing on your head.
