Its supposed to increase the rev limiter among other things that may or may not be correct- well thanks to an SAFC Neo i installed i can use the peak rev function to see

Power off - gear change at 6150-6250rpm
Power on - gear change at 6150-6250rpm

So much for that.... and yes the button would appear to be working as it lights the indicator on the dash

So what does this button *really* do then?

It simply allows the gearbox to kick down to a lower gear with less throttle than when its on normal mode. Also holds gears lower gears long before up shifting to a higher gear...

And it also adjusts the Factory Tems suspension settings with the TT's ( and v8's? ).

Power OFF = Soft.
Power ON = Medium

If you wish to obtain HARD settings, you need to bridge out the Tems in the diagnostics box to acheive so.. There is a Tutorial for this under TRack day preperations i think.

Phil. You may be surprised with the power gains a V8 can get from leaning out the air/fuel ratio. I had one installed and got an extra 40hp at the rears. Good luck with it all mate.

V8s with air suspension have a separate switch for hard-soft rather than mixing it with the ECT setting.

When you switch to POWER the gearbox will not kickdown when you have put the auto selector in second gear.

I seem to remember hearing that the lockup clutch engages earlier when in Normal mode, giving slightly better economy.

thats because with the power button on and the gear selector is in second, the gearbox is locked in second gear, which is why it doesnt kick down

SO YOU DONT SPIN THE WHEELS WHEN DRAG RACING IN SNOW YALLL!!!

I seem to recall a thread similar to this once before where someone also noted that the power steering stiffens up? ie, its harder to turn the wheel?
Dont quote me though... i have a pretty shocking memory.

I personally think thats crap, never noticed any difference in the steering but hey im willing to be proved wrong

And yeah i know about the PWR + 2nd thing, makes it even more useless :-/

Jason 40rwhp would put me up around 240rwhp/180rwkw which might embarrass some more modified V8s around here, but somehow i dont think so, im expecting a lot lower gain than that :-)

I do know however from my last dyno run that there is a fair bit of fuel that can be pulled out

It was handy for the AHG day to stop it kicking down mid corner.

ah ok, its too slow in the V8 though, you need 1st through the tight corners so you can come out of them sideways

Ideally then for the skidpan you would use PWR so it changes down from 2nd to 1st sooner and holds 1st longer during part-throttle stuff, but have the box in 2 so you get the trans braking effect you dont get in D - wish it worked that way...

skidpan day was a bit difficult to get the trans right. First time i tried it in 2nd to keep it locked, it wouldnt kick out enough. Leaving it in D seemed to do the trick but the only limitation is that you cant connect 2 drifts because when you lift off it upshifts. So it would have to start of in 1st or D and then downshift to 2nd.

Wont have that problem any more though, R154 and Torsen Type II will make it much more fun. :-)

I think the heavier steering thing is a result of the "track day setting", not the ECT switch. Does anybody know how this might work? Is it an electronically controlled pressure regulator or bleed solenoid in the power steering or something?

I reckon it might just be the stiffened damping causing more feedback in the wheel, but I've never tried it because I can get HARD suspension with my height controller.

Mmmm I noticed heavier steering in my TEMS Celsior with the track day setting.

Was really noticeable and felt more comfortable. :-)

A Hyundai Excel would rape me off the line if I took off in 1st, the revs flare up with the stally and the tyres turn to smoke.

Generally I will have to either baby it off the line in 1st until about 50-60kph and then stab it or just lock it in 2nd and boot it off the line then. :-)

That's understandable because it holds your gears a touch longer before up shifting.
