Hi all,
Still high as a kite so youll have to excuse me....I just put a deposit on a '93 manual tt soarer, classic green with intake and exhaust already done....

I only noticed after I paid and they were moving the car that it blew a little white smoke when it started up, Im paranoid about this being the ceramic turbo wheel things, should I be worried?

Still looking for a suitable set of mags but mostly I cant wait to get behind the wheel again. I thought my v6 alfa was fast....

Cant wait to get out to my first Adelaide soarer event (espescially wouldnt mind getting it on a dyno to see how its all going).

cheers for all of your advice on what to look for earlier and I look foward to getting some pics up.

Yes.

.... nah just kidding! ;)

If its only a little puff on start up, and the car hadnt been running previously (ie, cold startup >.> ) then its pretty normal. Soarers run very rich on a cold start.

Is one of the conditions of sale that you get it checked by a mechanic first?

Both of my soarers had rebuilt turbo's and they still gave out a small puff of smoke on cold startups, i wouldnt be too worried about it unless it smokes a lot.

I drove it on the weekend but didnt really get to push it, for one thing Id never driven a turbo before, it got on boost and I thought that was my cue to get off...

Today was a bit different, I am amazed how fast the engine can push the car in a straight line, in second gear it feels like its trying to overtake itself.

Hearing about that poor guy who died in his soarer, gives pause for thought though, terrible a life cut so short but it seems he died doing something he loved which is more than most of us can hope for.

You dont have to to tell me, this is a big step up from my alfa super 90, at the very top of second gear for about the last 500 rpm it felt like the soarer does just starting to come on boost.

Getting the manual cost me 3 grand extea but its totally worth it, no traction controll, just like a 1600kg go kart.

Actuall,y I was wondering if someone might give me a hint as to what the next upgrade might be? It already has a hks air filter, 3.5" high flow axhaust and an apexi turbo timer (plus ABS, BOV and factory LSD).
Where would you guys go from here? There are coilovers that were on the car but they were apparently ruining the ride and possibly defectable, the car seemed to handle pretty well as it is though (guess Ill have to see how she goes around some of the classic Adelaide stretches).

I just cant wait, I have to wait to get half my money from the bank which is being held up by paper work prooving my new payrate and I think the dealership is getting tired of me calling and comming round :-)

Lastly if mine is a 2.5tt with wood trim, ABS and leather seats, cruise controll etc. but only the basic stereo system does that make it a limited?

Finally lastly how do most people over come the stereos large size when they replace the head unit? are there plastic mouldings or something to fill the gaps? Are new head units hard to install with all the soarers clever electronics? what size are the speakers in the basic non stacker non sub system? and are there any special problems with having them replaced?

Thanks in advance for putting up with all the questions , Im chomping at the bit waiting to actually get the car so Im getting into doing as much reaserch and organising as I can now so i can get everything done and ready by the time I get to take her home :-) Anyway, thanks.

thats what I thought, is that a standard piece of kit or should I be trying to make friends with somone who does plastic moulding?

All I really need is a line in for my ipod, the tape adapter isnt a very elegant soloution...

Still thats exactly what I wanted to know, thanks Brian.

David, why don't you wait until the fixit day at Peters on 16 Sep. I guarantee you there will be plenty of Soarers with lots of mods you can think about.

Its all only limited by the size of your bank account.

I'm pretty sure that it was just a random piece of molding, and also, for an ipod, if you look at the bottom of the pic, there is a chord for AUX too. I'm not sure if it was hard to install though.....

Id rather spend money on getting an aux in than putting cash into an fm fix, seems a shame to ruin the flow of the dash though....

Thanks for all your help, i think ill leave the rest for the fix it day, dont want to clog up the forums, Im just so damn enthused about getting my soarer.

I have just one final question for the time being that I cant leave till the fix it day(unless I get out there on the bare axle): The dealer is offering me $500 trade in on the ratty studded wheels that are on there at the moment so Im looking at a few sets that they have for sale there...

Ive read a few slightly conflicting things about the max size of wheel is practical for a standard soarer, seems I shouldnt be looking at anything bigger than 18" X 7.5 with fairly low profile tyres, sound right?

And absolutely lastly and quickly is there any major repository of soarer pics online where I can take a gander at what different rims will look like?

Thanks all again for your help.

Dave..I have 18x9's front and 18x10's rear,
its more to do with the 'OFFSET' anything under 35 or 38 i wouldn't look at might have to much tramlining.(SEARCH),ours are made for offset+50
mine are +47 and +50 with 245/45's and 275/35
you don't have to go that big, you can get plenty of good 17" rims with the correct or 'near as' offset.
do a "Search" for "offset" plenty of info.
also with a 17" you don't have to go so low profile , and its a bit more of a comfortable ride.
see you at the fix it day.

ps: if your thinking about getting rims from that guy Dave, remember he sells a lot of Nissans, and there offset is WAY under for you, just make sure you check, it will be stamped inside the rim, near the back of the centre hub.

Do the coilovers come with the car? They are quite expensive if you decide to upgrade to them in the future, so hopefully they come with the car. I have Tein HA coilovers in my car and there only a bit harder than stock TEMs equipped soarers but the handling is much better.

Yep sounds like you have a GTTL, do you have the subwoofer in the rear parcel shelf? electric seats?

When you replace it with a new headunit, all you need to do is get a 1.5 din replacement available from Autobarn etc or even the one from Mazda.

Where abouts do you live?

And what do you mean by you had the car jacked up and maybe made the wiring lean over??

Hey Scott, yes they are stock speakers. I live in Mansfield park 5012. And the problem occurred after I jacked up the car to change the tyre. It was left like this for about 5 hours while I was getting the new tyre and trying to change it myself (so heavy to lift one tyre of mine...woah!!!).
