Hahah, When I had my soarer some Asian guy at the counter of the gas services station asked it it was V8 or TT, So I said it was V8, and hes like Oh too heavy, Im like oh not really, you would be surprised mate!

I think a stock JZZ30 is around high 1400's to low 1500's and the UZZ30s are around mid 1500's. UZZ31 and UZZ32s are naturally heavier with the extra equipment - any where from 50-150 from what Ive gathered.

Still I got a bit of a heavy barge at the moment, I suppose it would be around 1750kg or so!

From memory...

JZZ30 Pov Packs ~1540kg
JZZ30 Lux Pack ~1600kg

Considering R33's weigh roughly 1400kg with half the equipment, soarers aern't doing too bad for themselves.

I thinks its also because there bloody big cars for a coupe in terms of dimensions too, the soarers about the same length as the XR6 i had previously!

Thing is because there imports most people compare them to the 1150-1350kg imports like silvias, 200sx which once again weigh nothing because their equipment/specs list is so small...

Heh, my lux pack Jzz30 weighed in at 1820kg with me and the stereo and a full tank of gas! But i still ran 14.3 with just the bfi and an opened exhaust. Have to head to the track and get that a bit better before taking up the power.

The 1960's Mustang weighs 1200kg. Considering how lightweight it appears I reckon our cars are quite good.

I came from a Honda background where my little civic weighed 1100 fully laden. With 165kw NA at that weight i can understand where people come from when criticising Soarers weight. I too did it.

1500kg on the dot for my cressy with the 1JZ in it. The leather (Grande) models are about 100kg more approx. So there is not a massive weight difference between a TT soarer and a similar sedan.

Still a lot heavier than my old 1350kg MX6 V6 though ;)

I had my older cousin give me crap about the soarer's weight. He has a 3.5lt Rover V8 MGB 5 speed. He went on about how 0 to 100 in about 6 secs is crap...... I said sure its crap. your car is sooooo much quicker! Considering my displacement is 2.5, I have power steering, electric mirrors, windows and seats, climate control.....and im sure the soarer is quicker. I did get ahead of of him heading back from work in my dads old volvo 245 once...did get lucky with traffic flow though....

I've driven an MGB GT V8 many years back.

I was not impressed, even compared to my ride back then, a 1976 Triumph Dolomite Sprint (which admittedly weighed only 980kg's and had 220 RWHP)

The Buick V8 is a sweet engine considering its age, and you can do a lot with it to get some OK power, but even my JZZ31 would leave a standard MGB-GT V8 behind, and even more so when you hit a corner.

Matt, do you have any pics of said Dolomite?

Suspension and brakes have really advanced in the past 20 years. Proper suspension set up with double wishbones and large efficient brakes will outperform a lighter more powerfull car. Look at all the times around tracks like bathurst. They keep getting quicker, although ght drivers may not be better, and the car may not have anymore power. It all in the suspension, braking, efficiency, wind resistance etc etc.

Sorry Im ranting again. Its early alright!

I picked up my soarer last night and before I ended up in hospital for the night (thankfully not doing anything that damaged my new kick ass manual tt) I had a chance to take it for a run in the tight and twisty around gully hill and inglewood (part of the classic adelaide run?).
Apart from being alot faster when it came time to put the hammer down in second the car felt as stable as my old alfa and nearly as quick to turn in as my friends supercharged 'rolla.

I wasnt game enough to push it properly on my first night out so Im not sure how close to the limit it was, it felt fine but then Im not sure how communicative the steering is....Even so on that piece of road that Ive covered in plenty of small cars the soarer felt sure footed and alot smaller than when I tried to park it for the first time.

The only problem I had was on the narrow road going up the hill. Jagged exposed rock face on one side and a sheer drop into a quarry on the other the car felt plenty wide with trucks trying to make their way back down...

If the suspension, steering and balance is right then you can make anything handle well even australian v8's much less an aerodynamically efficient well sorted car like the soarer.

The thing only weighs 200kgs more than my mums cd xc barina.

Lowest ive seen my soarer weigh was 1538kg's, Everything stripped from the boot, No rear seat, no passenger seat and only 25L of Gas!

Although, my heavy ass made it weigh 1663 . Thats the race weight and stripped as much as could be done in 15 minutes!

Still, made an 11.8 out of it, so i dont really care how heavy it is,heheh!

Not digital - but I should get some scanned in some time.

It was British Racing Green with black vinyl roof - had the standard Sprint alloys and was very low with dark tint on the glass - I actually raised it up a bit as it would just scrape everything. Koni shocks with Rimmer Bros springs all around and uprated roll bars front and rear.

Interior had been fairly well stripped to cut down on weight, but was still using the original seats.

Engine was blueprinted, head ported and polished, running twin 2" SU carbs and electronic ignition with a custom made 4:2:1 extractor manifold through a 2.5" single pipe to a single rear resonator (yes, it was very loud!)

Transmission was 4 speed manual close ratio from a TR7 with J type overdrive on 3rd and 4th. Clutch was a very heavy single plate button.

0-100 in around 6 seconds, standing 400 in around 14 seconds (would have probably done better if I knew what I was doing and had slicks). Fastest I ever got it to was an estimated 20kmh over the top of the speedo, which ran to 240kmh (so something like 260) - which I only ever did once as it was one of the most terrifying moments of my life - live rear axles do NOT take that kind of speed well.

It was a bitch to drive, a bitch to work on, and often a bitch to get started - but a lot of fun sometimes.

Just last weekend a late 80's pulsar hatch came speeding past on my way from glenelg. Sounded like it had no exhaust. Driven by a... and his friend. He sped up just to overtake me. I wouldn't have bothered except I heard Psshhhttt! Turbo I thought..interesting. So I catch up to him (calmly) and drive next to him for a while with cruise control on. He then suddenly takes off. So I just hold the throttle half way amd gently push it. I kept next to him all the way while his car sounded like it was going to burst! Didn't bother having to overtake, didn't have to! When he backed of the throttle they look straight back to see how far behind I was...When they did notice me next to them..eventually I waved and went my way. Oh, there was 5 people in the soarer including myself enjoying the smooth ride with some 'doof' 'doof' music.

ive done the same thing in my v8 limited - i was driving up the freeway at about 12 at night doing 110k`s, then this guy in a vy calais comes up next to me an stays there so i boot it and take off he boots it too trying to catch up... no chance , i hit the speed limiter and he was a good 100 metres behind me, i slowed down and he tried again and again, every time i just pulled away...
the look on his face was pricless as he got left behind... nothing wrong with the weight of a soarer me thinks... :-)

Soarers are awesome cars. YES they are a bit on the heavy side but they do come with a lot of extras.

Having 1Js just makes it the ideal package i say.

V8 is more of a cruiser then a bruiser.
