I'm wondering if there is an easy or not so easy way to confirm the mileage on my TT Soarer? It ODO reads just over 43,000 km's. How can I tell if this is true?

Well is the info saved in the ECU or in the dash it self? Either way a switch out could be possible. Can they just reprogram it to read a different number?

Its VERY easy to turn back the digital reading on the odometer.
You can either set it to 0 or some other arbitrary number.
Of course, the right tools are required, but it happens all the time and the odometer is not an accurate measure for how good the car is. Get a mechanic to check over it.

Before compliance there is usually stickers placed around the car when services take place, and they usually fill in the odo reading when it's done. You can find these stickers placed behind the fuel flap, in the driver door sill and on the under side of the bonnet. The fuel one is usually a good one as they put all the fuel filter replacement records there.

Not sure, but depends why you want it. Especially with imports I think you are better off buying based on condition rather than Ks. Have a look at wear on the interior, particularly on the steering wheel and this can give you hints on how much the car has been used. Check things like the scrape panel underneath the engine as well.

Check wear on the pedals, seats, steering wheel etc. I'm looking more for a car that has been looked after than how many km's it has reputed to have done.

i second Lukes and Murrays post, door sag can be an indicator on some cars too but i dont think soarers suffer from this(?). Drivers side seat wear is a good indication tho. If its a soarer and you are in doubt id say multiply the shown kms by at least 4. Being a 91 id take a guess and say err 240 000kms.

Condition of the interior is a good indicator of usage, but you are better off getting the engine, transmission, suspension etc checked by a mechanic for the common problems, as they can and have been known to creep up on cars even sub 100,000kms
