I have a dvd player hooked up to my EMV and it plays multi region dvds fine and dandy. Now i am interested in knowing if those Toyota / Lexus navigation dvds will work? Will they function with the existing gps in the EMV?

Most likely won't work, but I got an old 2002 version of a Lexus satnav map DVD out of my IS lying around somewhere after I replaced it with a current one, if you are curious you can chuck it in and have a look...
Of course I can bet 99.999% that it won't do anything, as the graphics is different, GUI is different, has voice guidance etc....
Of course I'm leaving 0.001% benefit of the doubt, since I've never actually heard anyone say that they've actually tried doing that

Hang on, isn't the soarer satnav a CD-ROM unit... just realised they didn't have DVD's back in 1991...
I doubt an aftermarket DVD player will somehow trasnfer the data to the satnav computer in the soarer... it's like connecting a home DVD player to a PC, just wouldn't happen.
On another note, perhaps it is possible to make this DVD work on a computer, with some sort of an emulator software or something (might pop the DVD in my comp when I get home for the heck of it and see what happens). That way you'd be able to use it through a car PC or something...

He says he has a DVD player hooked up so it can be "read" and there is a GPS unit which receives satellite signals but what, I wonder, is supposed to execute the modern navigation code....?
I think that 0.001% might need to be reduced a bit

How does he know the GPS computer can read the DVD-ROM drive? Unless he put the stock CD in there and it reads it? I'd say due to the bigger size of the data on the DVD the satnav computer won't even know where to "look" on the disc...
Yeah I also reckon I should add an extra few zeros behind the decimal point there lol!

Both of mine are CD. In the Soarer there is a CD/Control unit with its own GPS and infra-red receiver for commands. The EMV screen is used only for output.
