Hi Everyone
I have only had my soarer for a few weeks now and im considering changing the rims on my car and would like some opinions.. My dad and bf are divided on this! I have a black kitted TT with 18" dish chrome rims. My dad likes these rims as they stand out alot against the black colour.
I quite like the deep dish black rims with the shadow chrome. Some black cars look very bad with black rims.. others look fantastic. The tint is also illegally dark.
Opinions would be great!

i know its up to me in the end but opinions are good to hear. Some black cars just look shocking with black rims and dark tint.
I see alot of people asking for others opinions on extras for their cars so thought it might be helpful :-)

If you get black rims, at least make sure they have a chrome lip.
Else I am not normally a fan of chrome rims, but they do look good on black cars generally.

A pic would help.

I'm a big fan of gloss black rims with a chrome/polished lip. On a black car they look very VIP style and are usually not too boy racer(cop magnets).

I have also seen champagne(think HSV rims) and gold work well on black cars.

Black Soarers usually look good with black wheels with a chrome/silver lip as Luke stated. 5 spoke chrome also looks excellent. Get 19's if you can. They fill out the wheel well very nice, assuming your car isn't dropped more than an inch or two.

My worthless opinions are:

1) Don't go bigger than 18" - anything more than that looks like a wagon wheel, and makes every day driving a tooth rattling experience, as well as making replacement tires something you have to save for. Soarers are also just too rounded to look good with really big rims.

2) Dark coloured cars generally look better with lighter coloured rims.

3) Chrome rims are always ghetto looking and don't suite any classic grand tourer such as the Soarer. They always make it look cheap and nasty.

The chrome ones on the car now look good but a bit to boy racer for my liking.
A friend put some of the chrome rims that fill in the whole tyre.. like the ones on some BMWs and the big Chrysler. But looked a bit like a pimp drug dealer car!
Im not a fan of the gold rims. I saw a really nice set of gun metal grey ones but thinking they might clash against the black. What other colours are there though!?

THIS MAN FOR PM!

The single most thing I hate about living in Bendigo, VIC: Commodores and Falcons with 20" chrome rims. I swear I'm going to head out with a sledgehammer some night and do some panel beating of my own.

I Hear ya Glen!

The same thing happens here in New Zooland, especially Auckland with mass quantities of 'modified' cheap, nasty, tacky, trashed, rust bucket hondas and other small imports with the most ghastly exhaust sounds you will ever hear! Most of them have cut springs, nasty paint jobs and odd ball drivers which makes it clear as to why the car looks so... disgusting to say the least! Dont even get me started on wheels...

... thinking about it, you can't actually call these things 'modified' they are just ruined, turned into nothing more than pre-scrap yard cars... Worth nothing!

I find it best to ignore them, and make sure they don't come 10 meters from our immaculate Soarers!

When I'm circling the supermarket car park for a free spot, I try to find one next to a nice late-model Mercedes or BMW - the driver is more likely to have the following:

1. A brain
... and in the event of Number 1 failing;
2. Insurance

And if you're forced to pull up at the lights next to some wanker in their Chav Chariot, the best thing is to floor it when the lights go green and remind them that their Civic/Swift/whatever is indeed a piece of overrated $&%@... and that "mods" don't entail sticking a cheap 3.5" exhaust on the end of it, and rolling about on ridiculously oversized wheels which require taking out a personal loan to replace the tyres.

Hahaha Classic Glen. Hit the nail on the head there!

It just boggles my brain as to why these tool bags in these kinda cars think an exhaust is simply a tomato can with no brand, welded on the end by a muffler man shaking his head...

The part thats the most entertaining is the choice of cheap, crack prone 'shinny wheels' that they think will make their car a 'cool'....

At the end of the day they are just wasting their money, life and time! :-)

........In fact they are not worth talking about as they are so pathetic!

Karen it's all up to you... some people like the chrome look, others despise it. I used to have chrome wheels (on a silver Soarer), but now I've got a nice set of machine polished wheels (I've got a black Soarer too). Black on black looks nice, it depends on what look you're going for.

I have no issues running 20's on my car and the ride is no where near bone shaking, no scrubbing at all, even with 255's on the back and tyres aren't too expensive, my latest ones cost $400 a tyre but I opted for quality. I could have got Nasty $150 tyres for it, but they're just that Nasty.

and in my opinion 20's fill the guards perfectly.

I'd totally forgotten about that - looked at it ages ago for a mate and his Celica. Hats off to Bob Jane T-Marts for that idea...
