I got my car on the dyno today because of a fuel problem that needs to be rectified and I wanted to see what results other Soarers got (horsepower wise) when put on the dyno...TT and V8...
I haven't really had my car modified much and I just wanted to see how mine stacks up against others...

I'm on a catch 22 - I love beefy exhaust notes and a bit of get-up and go, but I'm also one of the league who think if you want to go fast, get a motorcycle. When I've finished Uni I'll get another bike - will be in the market for sex on wheels - the MV Agusta F4-1000. For those of you with no bike savvy, this is the F4-1000 Senna:

Upload

I want to put a few bits on my Soarer (but nothing extreme)... just modify the intake, get some decent extractors and chuck a cat-back on it. I also don't want it too loud, since I live in the "hoon capital" of Victoria and I don't need unnecessary attention from the Boys in Blue... I also don't want my insurance premium going sky-high.

I don't want to be running sub-12's because I really don't give a poo about all that... my old GSX-R would shred half your Soarers bog stock except a Yoshimura carbon fibre slip-on... I bought the Soarer because it's a nice car. I just want better economy and a nice exhaust note. Advice?

Jason, if that is without a chip then it's very good.

You could probably add another 15 to 20 rwkw by adding a chip to it (you'll also get a lot more torque).

Yeah no chip mate, just the SAFC leaning out the fuel, I wasn't sure if a chip (unichip) would give me any increase. I was told the 240hp or 180rwkw is around the limit with standard internals for these engines.
If you have any ideas, let me know what you think.

That's probably what the Unichip does anyway.

It's still very good for a '91. I get 179rwkw from my '96 spec engine with a chip.

Mine was 266rwhp...I only have a couple of mods: Apexi pod, FMIC and 3" twin exhaust system (Y piece back) and a SAFC which we just put in to fix some things...

Now I find myself in the pursuit of MORE power...
Eeeek! This is gonna be expensive! I wish I didn't put it on the dyno, now I am gonna be obsessed with making it more powerful! HELP!

Sell my V8 for a TT? NO WAY! Like I said, I don't wanna run sub-12's.. I just want more power low in the revs. Obviously the path to a fat exhaust note is a decent set of mufflers... but if I do BFI, extractors and mufflers what sort of gain could I expect?

Glen, a Unichip will give you heaps of low-down torque. A worth-while investment. $1350 I think in Vic. If you were in NSW I would have offered a trial-ride in mine (if you get here I still will).

My biggest benefit in driving was from the chip. It changes the torque curve completely. Basically what you get is an extra 17 rwkw and a torque curve that is flat from 50km/hr to 150 km/hr in 3'rd.

Stock '92 UZZ31. Complete virgin, except for the ride height controller... looking to keep it very stock. I'm not willing to go for superchargers etc.. I have to keep it sensible. Pen already gave me some sound advice regarding exhaust mods... thinking about getting some Lukey mufflers or Greddy MX catbacks and leaving the rest stock... I don't want it to be loud.

Sounds sh!t hot! I was considering a chip.. I know what they can do to Ducati and MV Agusta motorcycles. Will a Unichip change the redline?

I just got the Emanage Ultimate working on the 1UZFE with full functionality and i guarantee you its much better than the Unichip. For the simple reason that the Ultimate alters the injectors directly to alter the air fuel ratio, instead of via bending the airflow meter signal. The ultimate also does ignition +-20 degree's over a 16x32 or 32x16 map which is more resolution than some after market standalone computers.

These units also work with supercharged 1UZ's as seen with Peter Taplins M90 powered 32', and cater for launch control and water/meth injection if necessary. If you do go crazy and upgrade injectors etc, i can have the Ultimate running 8x500cc's like factory in no time. Because of the units diversity we can tune for fuel economy, low end response and peak power figures without making compromises.

Installed and tuned you are looking at total cost cheaper than a Unichip by a fair margin with better gains everywhere because there's no limitation with ignition or fuel compensation.

That sound good Cihan. What do you get out of it rwkw wise?

Glen, no it doesn't change the redline. You don't actually need to do that after getting all the torque that much earlier.
Cihan's proposal may be better though (maybe better value for money) although I have not tried it.

Pity you're in Vic, I would have been pleased to give you a ride in mine.

Or is there some workaround?
