I'm with Just Cars. I turn 27 this month.

Costs me $858 premium per annum. My excesses however, both suck and blow equally.

Car excess is $600.
Standard car excess - same on any car
Exotic excess is $400.
Cos it's a 2 door turbo sports car
Import excess is $400.
Cos it's a 2 door turbo sports car FROM JAPAN
Stereo excess is $600.
Cos there is excess of $5000 worth of stereo equiptment (according to their assessors)
Wheel excess is $400.
Cos the wheel's cost to replace $3500
Premium Excess is $500
If i add this excess, I drop the premium by a little over $100 per annum.
So you understand, for example, if my wheels are stolen while i'm out, I still have to pay all excesses except the stereo excess. i.e., I have to pay, Car, Import, Wheels, and Premium excess before I can get wheels replaced. It would cost me $2300 to replace my $3500 wheels.

When my insurance was due in December, I spoke with shannons and they quoted me EXACTLY the same, but without the $500 premium excess so my premium would have been $993. They also added 1 or 2 conditions. Could only drive 3times a month, Logbook must be kept, I am ONLY driver, Window on garage muse be blacked out and some God Almighty alarm system had to be installed.

Also, what pisses me off is that I'm in a secured estate with swipe card entry AND back to base home alarm monitoring with an onsite security guard (I know, security guards arent cops but they do deter some d1ckheads) and a decent aftermarket alarm on the car. None of which makes a difference to premium OR excess!!

Still on the topic of Shannons (i love flogging dead horses) i dont think they have "Branches" per se... when i called i got a quote off a fellow who i think was Perth based, however after we finished on the phone (he gave a quote in the $23xx region) and it was all finished with i received another call.
This second call was from a nice young girl in SA who informed me that they were able to drop the premium below the $2k mark (bonza!)... we also got talking about Soarers and how she was interested in getting one.

Honestly guys i tried to warn her about getting one because of how many problems you have but she didnt seem to want to listen =\ Even suggested she read some of the horror stories on here!

So at the end of the day it worked out to be $19xx for full comprehensive and an agreed value of $25,000 covering any aftermarket mods/work. They give all the frills of choice of repairer and lifetime warranty on all repairs... yay!

The car isnt listed as a daily driver however and its stored in a secure/lockable garage.

PLUS its already had an attempted theft! =P Bastard almost got away as well.

Elders do. I had them in mind. However, ringing Shannons can be different from going to one of their shop fronts, and it seems that even over the phone you can get different stories. Incidentally, Shannons is owned by AAMI, IIRC.

Just a comparison with Shannons for you John, I'm 21, V8, daily driver and I've had a few speeding fines....
Agreed value: $15000
Premium: $16xx
Excess: $700

And you get all the fruit that Callum was talking about.

Insured Value - $8,000

Excess - $500.

I jumped on the phone straight away and got cover.
Very happy. Thanks Adam & thanks LSV!

John, does that include GST? What postcode? Mine is 2203 (high risk apparently). I just got quoted $939 incl. GST. $10000 insured value. Can also pay quarterly. $500 excess. Excellent deal. I'm taking it also.

Yeah Dulwich Hill is higher risk than Bexley (2207).

Annual Base Premium $668.28
FSL $7.35
GST $66.83
Stamp Duty $37.12

Total Yearly - $779.58
Half Yearly - $389.79
Quarterly - $194.90

I went the quarterly option as there is no additional charge for that & so it doesn't hurt my pocket all in one hit.

I got a quote from Special Vehicles too and they are expensive then Shannons.

Insured Value - $15,000
Premium + GST + Stamp Duty - $800 + $80 + $88 = $968.
Excess - $750.

Just steer LSV to this thread Adam and they'll probably put you on their payroll. Thanks for the headsup Adam. I will call them today and ask for a further discount as I just noticed on their quotation they have marked my car as a V8. Surely it will be cheaper for a N/A 6.

i drive a 97 manual soarer, and my insurance and excess from just car is both 1800. whilst i was signing up for insurance, the woman on the phone pretty much said to me that it is about the cheapest for a soarer because i live in a "low risk zone". she said if i was living in sydney, my car would cost around $3500 a year

I finally got an understanding person from Just Car, and also got a fairly good deal.

Agreed value of $13000
Premium of $887
Excess of (cough cough) $1750 plus another $600 if stolen

I also had the option of 'adjust excess' where you pay more excess and it can bring your premium down, didn't do this as excess is high enough already.

So in the end it worked out to be good.

This thread will be heaps of help to people looking to get insurance if they are over 25.

I have just insured the UZZ39 with Just cars, agreed value $15k, cost = $962.

Curious, as I registered the UZZ31 in January with them, agreed value $20k, cost was $856.

They claim that rates are adjusted all the time depending on the claim rate of the car type. :-(

my car is what they call market value and limited use, but insured as modified, wheels engine/exhaust suspension..

in addition to the 1st post, there are no further requirements, no log or limiting mileage... i have been with shannons in the past and they have been very good... but in the beginning i could not get into them as at some stage you had to be a certain age and have a particular type car, but thats all changed now

Well there ya go.. LSV DO NOT do Daily Driving Insurance on Motor Vehicles ANYMORE !

Any Existing customers policies will be honoured and continued, but NO NEW policy will be taken up for something Driven Daily.

They are Mainly looking into covering limited driven cars like Historics, Club registered and so forth.

Guy i spoke to today was very informative and answered all my questions.

I Also asked about " Limited KM " driving, Which he said you would state on your policy when the car would be driven. IF it was weekends only and you crashed it during the week, IT WOULD NOT BE COvered ...

So That rules out Lumleys and LSV ...

As For Shannons... They want $450 more than Justcar on my exact same policy .

I used to look forward to getting older and Insurance becoming cheaper... It Just aint the case anymore,hehehe...

And Vinh, Sounds bout rigth mate. Im 29 Value of $14k and premium will be $1719 with all mods on board. No priors, no offences, clean record.

Try Elders,
They were the best I found from about 8-10 quotes. All the details were put in another thread somewhere but it was cheap premium, cheap excess and no dumb conditions like 'always garaged', free windscreen too. if you want more details look here

Premium $19xx
Excess $2100
Agreed Value of $14k
20 Male, no accidents

This is what i paid in December last year.

Age: 21 going onto 22 soon
Insurance Company: H2P
Insurance Type: Comprehensive
Premium:$550-$580 somewhere around there
Excess: $750
Valued: $21,000

Will be getting the car assessed again due to more mods and stuff and will be asking for around $25K value. Seriously unbelievable deal i got, my dad wanted to insure my old tow car (EB Fairmont) which i gave to my brother and he the premium and excess was gonna be more than the Soarer with a value of $5000. Thats despite the fact that my brothers 25 and has never lost his license unlike me (single P plate missing off rear window). Can you say SCORE

Well its at $21K now but throwing a lot of money into her again. It works out about that to buy a stocker for around $6-7 and then about $15K for all the other on the car to be replaced. So to build a replicate in its current condition will be around $21K, actually a bit more but meh.

So that all stuff like jap name brand part, wheels, exhaust, stereo which is pretty expensive (custom more custom interior intercooler etc etc

Oh and Daniel dont get me wrong there is no way i could sell the car for that much, possible if i part it out. However better to have it at a greater value than under value if something ever happens god forbid. They way i see it is i got the deal of a life time and im over the bloody moon, no complains on my end but then again if something does happen them god know if they will pay out as there not as big as Shannons, justcars, AAMI etc

Pointless to insure for that much unless you have an agreed valuation signed off with the insurance company - otherwise the adjuster will just give you "market value" and you've wasted all that extra insurance money.

I just rang H2P about my 97 UZZ31.

Premium - $893.48
Excess - $500
Import Excess - $500 (added to the standard excess - total excess - $1,000).
Full comprehensive, Rating 1, market value deemed to be $16100

No modifications, no accessories.

This is more in line with what I have had from eg Just Cars, so the price David got is almost too good to be true. I suggest lock it in while you can, as you may find that getting another quote from them won't be quite so favourable.

Matt- yeah they actually wanted to see the car and they appraised it, it was there condition for a grey import with modifications. I said i wanted $19K and they said "well thats good coz we are giving you $21K"

Rob- not really huge on power pretty much just nice goodies. Last Soarer was built for power/drift but got stolen so this is something with a bit less attention and a lot less hassle to bring back to stock when i get defected (4 defects in 6 months, the most defected car ive had and its the most tame haha)

Peter- when i was getting quotes back then no one would touch me once i said i was under 25 and lost my license one before. Shannons didnt want to touch me even with CAMS license, just cars wanted heaps and heap and H2P was the last on the list of 11 companies i tried. The guy gave me a quote and i screamed for him to give me a quote number. Next day i chased it up and signed it off. Only thing im worried about is that insurance companies reevaluated the value each year and im about up for it. Im hopeing it doesnt nose dive, but either way once the car is done ill take it around to them and they can reevaluate it with all the mods on it.

There is a new firm on the block at
www.thebuzzinsurance.com.au

They are backed by IAG (NRMA Insurance) just like AAMI owns Shannons although thebuzz does not seem to be oriented to the performance market.

I know they do young drivers but I have no idea whether they do Soarers. I saved 25% by switching the IS300 on its renewal this week though.

Investigate every year.
