Hey everyone,

My insurance policy is up for renewal in two weeks. At the present i am with Just Car.

I am wondering if anyone knows of any other insurance companies who would insure under 25 driver of turbo vehicle?

stick with just car mate. they'll still give you the best qoute for your age, but usually the excess is a little high.

I may still give Shannons a call and see how much they would be in comparison.

But also Just Car can lower the premium but gain a higher excess.

Give GIO Custom Car insurance a go, just make sure you ask for there lowest price! There first quote to me was around $3500 then when i hesitated and asked what my other quotes were i got them down to around $1400. They were better and cheaper in every way for me over Just Car.

I'm insured with Shannons. $970 odd premium for agreed value. Covers you if you bend it during a defensive driving course, which you will be hard pressed to find elsewhere. They also are pretty loose with the number of mods you have as long as you are up front with them. I once told NRMA I was looking at fitting new camshafts to my Gemini and they cancelled my insurance on the spot.

I have found that different Shannons agents have different agendas. The local Newcastle guy a few years ago flatly refused to talk to me about Soarers(or imports in general). I think he was a pushrod kinda guy. The guys at the Summernats stand, and in Darwin all but filled in the paperwork for me. The local Newy guy just did an Aristo for my mate. It pays to shop around, even inside the company.

Went to GIO website and they don't cover cars in SA. But had a link to another one of their companies which do, Suncorp... but don't cover under 25 years with turbo car.

Shannons only insure if "All drivers are aged 25 years or over."

Looks like back to square one.

They insure Soarers - it helps to be a member of a car/bike club. They like that.

When i got my insurance with just car, the lady on the phone quoted me $2200 with a $900 excess. I jumped on thier web site, did an electronic quote, and it quoted me $1440 with the same excess! so just rang them up and gave them the quote number and unfortunatly my credit card details and bingo, insurance for $1440, and im only 22.

I do not recommend these guys...

http://www.famousinsurance.com.au/

When i signed up with them I had to do the quote over the phone and the lady on the phone had no idea about anything car related at all.

So when i said can you send me the quote and all listed details on the policy before i paid, she said no we cant do that (first mistake on my part) was i paid 1/4 of the premium then and would wait for it to arrive in the mail before paying the rest. Of course it arrives in the mail and according to her my JZZ30 GTTL is now a JZZ31. So several issues later i got sick of dealing with them and cancelled the policy. No worries they said and they cancelled the policy that day. To get the refunded portion of my premium took over 2 months and i had to deal with 4 different people. After speaking to one guy, he said my policies cancelled but if i want a refund i'll have to email this guy (wasn't even a proper email - it ended with @bigpond.com).

Seriously if they charge an admin fee to cover the cost of policy cancellation surely they could communicate with someone else in the same company.

These guys are all too happy to take your $$$, but if you need them to do something forgot about it. I would hate to have to make a claim with them.

I tried famous insurance, not helpful at all. Was on the phone for ages just to find out they don't insure under 25 turbo.

And just tried qbe web site and soarer is not listed there. lol

But also remembered that is who my parents are with and i tried that when i first got my car and no luck, so i wouldn't think they would change.

Cheers for your help everyone, but it looks like the wall is just growing with companies that don't like turbo cars with younger drivers.

Despite being over 50 and having a good record, as well as the n/a 3.0 Soarer, I had some ridiculous quotes for our car when we moved to WA (the previous company wouldn't insure the car once it left Norfolk Island). Elders came me a good quote ($810 p.a, payable monthly) with good excess ($250) for market value (which is probably more than we paid for the car).

Due to staff changes in the Elders Carnarvon branch I was dicked around a bit (lost paperwork to start regular deductions from my account) but all sorted now.

Shannons wouldn't insure me because my (employer supplied) house doesn't have a garage.

Whether Elders would insure an under 25 driver of a turbo, I don't know, but it wouldn't hurt to ask, and if knocked back, try another branch, as they do seem to vary from one to the other.

I just gave Shannons a call. They won't insure my Soarer!!! GRRRR!!!

Their excuse was because it was a daily streeter.

Just car wanted $1600p.a. to insure - RIPOFF!

I had a look at the elders website and on that, it only notes about commercial vehicles.

Who do I contact in Sydney for Elders private car insurance?

Shannons do not normally do under 25s, like Dawes. In fact, Shannons ban under 25 drivers regardless of who is the owner and insurer.

Elders do different things in different places. They certainly insure Soarers in some places (I have had mine with them) but as I recall the only car on their list was not a "Soarer" but an "SC400" so perhaps the fact you have a TT killed it.

John, I had that myself when I rang around in Melbourne (where we spent 7 weeks enroute to WA). You just have to try different branches as it's up to the insurance manager at each branch.

Shannons in Victoria must be the only ones who will insure under 25, My sons car is heavily modified and the insurance is in his name Its not a soarer, maybe thats the difference, but still a turbo car, His coming up 2 years with them and his premium dropped this year for same agreed value. He'll be 24 this year.

Tried Dawes.com.au this morning. Just got a reply of "We do not insure anyone under 25 years of age."

Sorry about that Scott. Being I'm am old bastard I never realised they didn't insure under 25's.
When I was under 25 insurers didn't care how old you were they just wanted your business.
Guys, to help out, maybe we should be saying which branch/office of which insurer we are using as it seems some branches of the same insurer will insure while others wont.

Oh, the other thing is, it is most certainly better to contact the insurer by phone rather than use their online quote system. This is most likely because their online quote system probably red flags certain answers automatically.

I got my renewal from Just Cars... They wanted $1763 to insure it for an " AGGREED (my ass) " $9250... Dropping it from $12,500 from the previous year.

I called Shannons, and got the most useless woman ever !!! Was told that it would cost $2389 to insure it for agreed value of $14,000 with all current mods...

Called Just car back up. Said i was extremely unhappy that they drop the price so much! AND still wanted to charge me so much, SO i told her about the extra mods i have done in the last 12mths and the fact it is currently in a magazine..

She comes back 5 minutes later and says " Yep Daniel, We can insure your car for the agreed value of $14,0000 for a total of $1833..

Much better... Shannons sucked! Tried 2 times to get a decent price and both times i must have been put through to the reject farm! 2nd one told me " you already have a quote, and what makes you think i will make it cheaper for you?"..

Anyways, I dont care about paying $1833 to insure it.. Its covered! And im happy.

Just Cars did a V8 for me, agreed value $20,000 - $856 with a $400 excess.

It was also $100 cheaper when I gave them my home postcode instead of my work postcode.

Daniel has just clearly demonstrated what has been said many times over in all the numerous insurance threads that have come up over the years - It really does depend on who you speak to within the company!

Not to dispute your experiences in any way Daniel, from my personal experiences here in WA, I have had nothing but problems with Just Car the 2-3 years that I had been with them, plus they were always more expensive than others. Now that I've been with Shannons for a while, I could not fault them in any way, plus they have been the cheapest every time I have gone to renew.

So I guess it really does pay to shop around and see what the best deal is that you can get with your own personal circumstances.

OK. Correction: Only in Canberra will Shannons not insure under 25s; possibly.

However, as said already it depends on the branch to which you go. In previous insurance threads I have said you should shop around every year, never renewing automatically. Keenan says much the same. It will save you money.

Would have to agree with you Keeanan, I have never had a problem with Shannons, and they will even let me place my misses on the policy, and she is under 25. They are the cheapest, but then I also do not use it as a daily.
