Well i have just been offered a financial position in L.A. For 6 months and i have 2 days to make up my mind. I am wanting to keep the car as i love it to death but i was wondering on how i should store her!!! I live in Cairns and it will be living in my garage but i am worried about the humidity getting to her and mold forming also with engine internals... How should i prepare it for a long hibernation??

Hi mate,

My Turbo soarer is in storage at the moment whilst im over here in Iraq.

I just jacked the car up and left it on jack stands so my tyres wouldnt crack up.

I left it with a full tank of fuel (open to debate) because i couldnt drain it easily.

I took off the battery terminals and removed the ECU so it couldnt be stolen ahaha.

When i return ive been advised to unplug the ignitor and then turn it over a couple of times to get the oil moving and then plug it in and give it a go.

Obviously do a good check of all your fluids before starting up.

I just covered mine with a decent car cover and im hoping for the best.

My sister left her Nissan NX Coupe sleeping in the garage for 16 months and when she returned it started up no worries (to everyones suprise)

Good luck with the new job hey!

I think James has done nearly everything you can do without doing anything too drastic.

I've stored bikes over the winter and when I've been interstate working for longer than a couple of months, and James' advice is pretty much on the money in my books. Don't worry about fuel - it'll get old and manky but I think you can hardly tell the difference when you get rid of the old stuff and put in a nice clean tank of 98RON with a bottle of octane boost for good measure. Also with draining the tank, you have the risk of impurities causing rust, something you really don't want.

If you don't want to leave the battery on a bleed charge, you'll just have to purchase a new one when you get back. No biggie, new batteries can't be all that bad and you have the added bonus of an ECU reset when you do it.

Good luck with the job, assuming you decide to take it!
