Thanks everyone.
A couple of notes
10.3 = 13/32, should be as tight as possible, 10mm is too small so stepped up from there.
Wood vs metal, not sure, metal might be harder to get a tighter fit so it may rattle.
Build to the camera size! My 'camera' is my phone at the moment and weighs like 150gms if you have a bigger camera, its going to need a bigger surface to mount on and it also might be good to bring it closer to the headrest.
I have no idea what race officials will think of it, its a big piece of pointy stuff in the car. Not a huge amount away from your head, so yeah.
The Headrest does not lock in, its tight, but doesnt come down to the locking points. It shouldnt be an issue, but if that kind of thing concerns you, it is pretty much unavoidable.
Im going to experiment with velcro or some aluminium straps or something, plus padding. Tape is good, but annoying to get it secure.

Hmm thats a good point, but you could always reverse it and put it on the Driver side so its not going to act as a pointy object at the side of your head! )
