Meant in the nicest way possible...
What the bloody hell is the story with all the tough car modifying laws over there? To my understanding you guys have to deal with not being allowed after market intakes, atmospheric B.O.V's, wheels a certain size bigger than factory...? Hell in NZ we get warrants with chopped springs, we can do pretty much anything we want to our cars. Why is your government so tough on it? It seems a little over the top... Mind you, here in NZ the "boy racers" are running pretty rife - but in saying that it's generally young kids with crappy hondas that drive like maniacs, I don't often see people thrashing their "real" sports cars.

Yep very tough laws indeed. Aftermarket intakes need to be boxed, BOV's must be plumbed back, etc. etc.

I think the recent crackdown on hoons hasn't made it any easier for us either.

There's been a recent crackdown on hoons? Aren't big car gatherings illegal aswell...? Or was that in America? NZ cops have been cracking down aswell, to the point where they're become assholes. I get pulled over almost every time I see a cop - to date I'm still fine-less. They'll search my car with a fine toothed comb and then hold me up for another 10 minutes while they run a check on me, it's getting rediculous. I had one cop try to give me a fine for a complaint that was laid against my Soarer in october last year (for not allowing someone to pass, BAHAHA), I repeatedly told her I'd only picked the bloody thing up in january. She held my up for about 15 minutes finding out exactly when I changed the ownership and when she eventually resigned herself to the fact that she has nothing on me she issued me with some compliance stating I had to remain on my property until 7am the next morning and radio'd my number plate out. I don't know what her problem was, I was polite for the most part, I made it pretty obvious that I was getting sick of being held up by some prick cop trying to meet her quota but I wasn't rude or uncooperative. And the NZ public wonder why cops take hours to arrive (you see stories on the news all the time) when they report burglurys, rape and assaults... Obviously a young guy is driving somewhere, that's much more urgent

Check out this clip too... it shows why they want to crack down on everyone. Mind you, it's a minority causing the problem for the majority.

you only get done if your hanging out at maccas or krispe kreme on friday nights.

If you get done in other places, you were probably asking for it.

Funny how the guy who gets done is always perfectly innocent.

If you fart in your car in WA you will be fined for noise pollution and will be required to submit your arse for immissions testing using the IM240 test which still isn't available here.

Still it could be worse. This taken from news.com.au this morning:

Flogging or jail for bad driving
From correspondents in Tehran
April 23, 2008 09:25am

DRIVERS in Iran found guilty of dangerous behaviour on the roads could be sentenced to 74 lashes or several months in jail, Iran's traffic police chief says.

"Drivers who commit dangerous acts will be referred to court for harming public order and the court can sentence violators to three months to a year in jail or 74 lashes,'' Mohammad Rouyanian was quoted as saying by the Kayhan newspaper.

"Their vehicles will also be seized for a week,'' he said.

The new measure would come into effect next month.

Here in the ACT all cars must be preceded by a bicycle with a red flag attached. Designated routes will have galleries where pedestrians can pelt cars with free-range eggs from hens which have listened only to Mozart. This law will be introduced on the first day of the second quarter of 2009.

Unfortunately, I may be wrong about the date.

I think WA is the only state where its still legal to own and use one.

Radar jammers on the other hand are illegal everywhere. I think the reasons at this stage is because they emit a signal which is a no-no.

Crickey.
You guys should at least get that spray on film for your number plates so you can escape speed cameras (because lets face it, no matter how P.C we like to act we're all males with high performance cars - we like to have some fun every once in a while), there's no way they can make that illegal. And what if the camera get's you? Are the po-po's going to put a warrant out on the car with the bright white blur number plate?

I think it is illegal. Something to do with modifying a legal registration item or something...
It wouldn't be too hard to narrow down the owner of the car when you take in to account pictures of faces from front on pictures...

You might be able to get away with putting a clear piece of Perspex over the front which is covered in the stuff though?

No. Anything which distorts or conceals the plate is illegal.

The practical test appears to be: if they can read it, they get you, if they can not, they get you for that as well.

Overnight an L driver (limit 80 Km/h) was caught travelling at 184 on the Hume Highway. Given his lack of experience he is fortunate not to be dead, despite the fact the road and car may well have been fit for it. My point though, is that dedicated policing of miserable limits to the finest degree does nothing at all to prevent such one-off events, which are usually the ones that kill people merely owing to speed rather than owing to fatigue, bad overtaking or inattention.
